That sounds like a truck full of winning Orchids!

I decided to take one more so I have 9 orchids stuffed in the truck. I don't know if I will win anything unless they give awards for trying. Hilarious!

Well, humph! The blue ribbon was won by a pink floofy Catt with a dozen blooms on it. It was pretty but I wouldn't have traded any of my 9 for it. Go figure. I did come home with two new babies won in a raffle. See the "I Just Bought" thread.

Bad day here in Odessa and I'm not talking weather. I went to the gym this morning as usuall and changed clothes in the locker room. I put a pad lock on the locker and went out to exercise. When I came back to shower, I noticed there was no lock on my locker and on further inspection, I found my wallet and IPhone had been stolen. All of my credit cards, drivers license, social security card gone. I spent the rest of the day cancelling everything. A new IPhone is $600 in mid contract so I will not get another one. What a mess. I'll be working on this for a week. Evidently they smuggle bolt cutters into the locker room in their gym bags and then wait for folks like me. I've made the police report and all but I don't expect much will come of that. I'm left angry and tired.

Truly a shame, Jim. Kind of shakes your faith in human nature, doesn't it.

My family has abandoned me today, and I'm so tired, it's like a vacation. Kids and grandbaby are on the plane to Salt Lake, and DH on his way to Seattle.

I did have a nice grouping of bloomers to show off for them this week.

I feel like locking the doors and windows and sitting in the middle of the house with a fully loaded shotgun. In reality, I have to get a new driver's license, go to social security for a new card and see if Verizon will activate an old non-smart phone I used before I got the IPhone. That should hold me through September when I'm due an upgrade. If I bought a new phone now, It would cost $600 plus the plastic film cover and the belt clip case plus tax. I can make due until September without all that.

I spent the entire morning at the DMV getting a new driver's license and the entire afternoon at the Social Security office to get a new card. It would be impossible to design a more boaring, frustrating day. On the bright side, a couple of new credit cards arrived in the mail and I stopped at the bank for a little cash. I also managed to get an old phone activated so, while it is not a smart phone, at least I have a phone. Being completely without funds is scarry. I am feeling a little better and can now see light at the end of this tunnel. I'm still not ready to go back to the gym. Perhaps next week. I haven't looked at the orchids in the last two days. We had a cool night or two, down into the mid 40s, but have now recovered to perfect weather again.

Jim, Before you go back to the gym, might I suggest you don't take anything that won't fit in your pocket? If you lock your wallet and cell phone in your car you will have the same problems, except your insurance will cover it...depending on your deductable. It's a sad world we live in today. Sad

There may be a reward for your troubles out there in the OC, Jim.

Every time I turn my back on my orchids for a few days, I come back to discover buds and flowers.

My goodness, where do you people live. You can't take your valuable tos a health-club, under lock and key, and you can't leave anything in your car as well? Perhaps y'all need to move to the south. Just joking (I guess). It is sad that our nation and the whole world has become the way it is.

This is not a new thing. I had money stolen out of my Gym locker 25 years ago! But at least in those days they usually left you with whatever else you carried in your wallet.

Btw one could imagine that in Jim's case, the thief might be someone intimately familiar with everyone's schedule, like an employee ?

A new bloom for me this morning, little noid Phal is one of my rescues from the Lowe's death rack. Makes it even more of a treat. Lots more buds to come, too!

I also had a lapse of common sense at Trader Joe's and picked up this nice bronzy-orange Cym. The price was right, at least.

Elaine, cute Phal, you did well with it! Thumbs up
You know, I am always tempted to pick up Orchids from Trader Joe! Right now they are selling (amongst other stuff) Cymbidiums, which are dirt cheap and they are really pretty. Sure, you usually would get a plant with only one spike in bloom, not those beautiful masses of bloom Jim just posted, but still very nice! For me it would be a "cut-flower purchase" since most likely it will not bloom again under my care.

That Cym. looks just like the one I got at Costco.
