I'm happy to report that the pollen count is way down and I'm feeling much better!

After three weeks of coughing incessantly, what a relief! I'm taking advantage of the beautiful weather and working in the yard. The weeds are completely out of control!

@Miss Alice, I meant to mention earlier that I love your garden. You have the winding paths going between flowerbeds, just love these gardens. Makes me want to stroll through it.

I just finished my first round of yard mowing for the year. Lots of wind, so when I went in the "right" direction I got lots of stuff blowing back at me. The mower seems to want to slip into a lower (closer to the ground) setting than I would like, so this clip is closer than I want.

Unfortunately the guy who we have taken the mower to for repairs for over 20 years died last year. He was good and very convenient-- right across the street. Now we need to find someone else to handle this, and it won't be as easy to get the mower to him/her.

Still plenty of mowing to do later this weekend.

Our mower bit the dust but it's cheaper to put a new motor in it than to replace it (Gravely 60 inch deck) so we're out a mower for now but should hopefully have it back soon.

I dug up 2 big clumps today of the soloman's seal. One for a friend and one for me. We'll see if they hold the variegation or not. Hope they do.

Thanks Tigerpaws! I love to have visitors visit my garden.

This has been the best year for azaleas we've had in a lifetime ng time! It is just beautiful! Even my hardy orchids are putting on a huge show! I gave a bunch away a couple of years ago. They spread fast and bloom for a month or more.

It was a beautiful evening here-- only a little bit cool, almost no wind-- so I went for a walk around 7 PM. Other people were out and about-- a young couple also out for their walk, several little girls out riding their bikes, a neighbor out working on his flower beds.

The neighbors who live in the house where the boys used to live have a large, pit bull type dog. It was sitting up in front of the window, looking out at the world going past. A few houses down, the little rat terrier I've petted many times came running out to greet me. Of course, he got more pets. And the black shepherd type dog that guards a house where a young Native American couple live with their children rushed out to the end of its rope/chain barking like mad, but wagging its tail the whole time.

On the other side of town, one man was mowing his lawn, while a few doors down the family was out burning brush and branches that came down in the wind a few days ago, and getting the ground ready for their garden. Other neighbors were out in their lawns, chatting across the property line to the folks who live next to them.

In all, a very pleasant evening to be outside.

This amaryllis is called Hercules. It isn't red but a deep pink. I planted it after we got home from our winter trip. I will plant it outside as soon as it quits blooming. My outside amaryllis are just beginning to bloom. I should have taken a picture today but didn't -- maybe tomorrow.

Miss Alice beautiful amaryllis. Are you able to leave the bulbs in the ground all year around? Another question: is that straw or pine needles covering the flowerbed?

Love the hardy orchid, Alice. Never tried those. Too bad amaryllis isn't hardy here.

Dave, wagging tail doesn't always mean the dog is happy to see you. Cute dog stories though.

.

Thank you. We do not have to lift the bulbs. They stay in the ground year around. They are mulched with pine needles. I have a neighbor who has a bunch of pine trees behind her house. She lets me come and take all I want. A couple of years ago I got busy and didn't get any raked. Next time I visited she sent me home with 4 30 gallon bags full that she'd raked for me. She was 84 at the time. Remarkable lady. Yesterday was her 86th birthday.

I'm tired this evening-- spent a lot of time outside clearing deadwood and brush out of the cedar hedge, then spent more time mowing the lawn. I had to work in spurts because the temperature hit 90F this afternoon. I'll finish the lawn tomorrow. When the temperatures are supposed to be about the same as today.

And with 90F temperatures, I think it's time to switch to shorts when working outside.

I was dearly wishing for shorts today but they were buried in totes downstairs. Got them up now so I'm ready for tomorrow and for the next heat wave. Put my tote of tank tops on top as well so once I have my closet ready I can put them in the closet. Working on organizing it so all my clothes will fit, not just seasonal.

I have to weed eat tomorrow. I'm gonna make sure I have sunblock on!! Forgot it today and am a little tender on the back but not too bad.

Now you can see the pink color of this amaryllis bloom. It will be planted outside as soon as it is bloomed out. It won't bloom again till next year this time!

It's 85 degrees here this afternoon. I really don't enjoy the heat!

It's been a lazy day here. Off work to use up vacation time I'd lose if it was still on the books in June. Up later than normal, only left the property to do grocery shopping and pick up meds at the pharmacy.

I worked outside for a few rounds doing weeding and cleanup. We had nearly 3 inches of rain this week (yeah!) so the grass has taken off. But I'll wait until tomorrow to mow.

I noticed that a bunch of bananas had gone black, so I made banana bread. Then I saw that I had a pound of sausage in the refrigerator that had been there for over a week, and needed to be used soon. Supper was biscuits with sausage gravy.

I've spent more time than I should in front of the computer today, listening to music on YouTube and following up on friends and acquaintances on FaceBook. So before it gets dark, I need to go take a long walk. ta-ta!

More amaryllis are blooming! They are very happy after last night's 1 1/2 inches of rain.

Beautiful, Alice. Another southern plant we can't grow out of doors here. Some people grow them indoors in pots, of course.
