This has been a slow day. I left work at noon because I wasn't feeling well and spent most of the afternoon resting. (I pushed it a little too fast during Monday's session at the gym and ended up with a sore, inflamed hip. Nothing to do but take Tylenol every few hours and rest.)

We had rain here again in the early afternoon, and may have more tonight and tomorrow. Sun is predicted for Friday and Saturday, so I may have a chance to mow the lawn.

Not that much rain and the trees aren't shedding limbs much this round. So been getting lucky. Rain overnight and tomorrow, dry then rain all weekend and most of next week. So far. We'll see how the basement holds up.

This has been a busy afternoon. I started a big pot of beef stew (beef, onion, potatoes, rutabaga, parsnips, carrots, celery, and radicchio, seasoned simply with garlic powder and black pepper). There are two additional stew ingredients I didn't have-- I've not seen parsley root in the stores here, and I've had bad experiences with celery root (celeriac) being way too fibrous.

Then I went out to mow the lawn. I worked in spurts, taking a couple of breaks to rehydrate and rest. I'm about 40% of the way through the job. I may do more after supper, but then again, I may wait until tomorrow. The clover in the lawn has bounced back after the recent rains. Common lawn clover (white clover, Dutch clover) I just mow down along with the grass. But part of this lot was used for hay at one point, and stray red clover clumps still come up regularly. I mow around a few each year to keep them coming back.

Just for the heck of it I mowed around several of the big lawn toadstools. I like to see them each year. Once the visible parts have dried up, I'll mow them down-- after all the main part of this type of fungus is underground.

I woke up to rain this morning. We'll see if it dries out enough to finish mowing the lawn this afternoon. When I drove up to Holton to do some shopping I noticed water standing in the fields. We're still in a water shortage situation, but mainly because the ponds have not caught up after several dry months-- the fields, I think, are OK now.

Lovely, Alice! Hot pokers already! Love your little school project!

Roelie, I hope you and your brother are doing better. It is good to see your posts.

David, feel better! I wish I had your inspiration in the kitchen. I have not been wanting to cook at all.

We're currently under a tornado watch (conditions right for one, but nothing sighted yet). There's a strong storm front about 5 counties to the west. Salina is the next city in line for that. I really hope we don't have to spend a lot of the evening waiting out the storm in the basement.

I'm hoping the same here since I have to be up at 2:30am for work. Last I heard it'll be mainly straight line winds up to 70-75 mph at times here.

The strongest part of the storm has passed Salina, and is over Abilene, now.

Now about to hit Junction City. There seems to be a bit of northward motion too, so it may just slide past us. (But I wouldn't count on that.)

Just hit Manhattan. Pottawatomie County is up next. They deserve a break. Their county seat (Westmoreland) got hit by a tornado on April 30, with 1 death, 3 injuries, and 22 homes destroyed.

Our tornado watch expired at 8:45 PM. Looks like the first wave of weather will miss us. There's a weaker front behind it that still might drop something here. And it's hard to tell what's coming up from the south. It looks like that may go Amanda's way.

I had a routine appointment with the heart health clinic today. Everything is going fine, and the next visit is scheduled for August, rather than one month out. I was pleasantly surprised when my blood pressure came in at 100/58.

So excited to see my Indian pink blooming. I thought I'd lost it as I haven't seen it in bloom the last couple of years.

Everything is good here. Got lucky. There were several tornadoes in the area the other day but luckily nothing hit here.
