Arif, I'm sitting here watching a snow storm. We have had 18 inches since early yesterday morning and there is more to come. I hope you receive the rain you need. We seldom have intense dry periods, although summers are dryer and hotter than they used to be. I don't think you will find anyone who deals with the weather here doubting that global warming is a factor. The unfrozen Lake Erie waters are supplying us with all this snow as arctic air comes down across it - it should be frozen over by now but is just getting down to 32F in the lee side harbors this week.

I feel that most of the ills of modern life fall from fewer and fewer people working the land and with the animals that feed us. As more people live in cities and away from the land, they lose all perspective.

How true but I am noting a trend here at least. People who were born in cities a half a century or more back have started to go back to the land. Maybe not large farms or large scale farming but farm houses with gardens, fruit trees and veggies. Maybe a few staples for their own use. Nostalgia and maybe the fact that these hybrid vegs, wheat, etc just do not have the flavor of the old varieties.
Regards,
Arif.

I love the Garden Planning Center! Hurray! I think it's odd, though, that although I live smack dab in the middle of the 4th biggest city in the US, when I type in my zip code it says I'm in a suburb that is 20 miles away. The gardening info is still probably correct, but the location is a puzzlement. Hilarious!

Marylyn, it's giving you info from the nearest weather station that has the long-term frost date data.

I didn't take it as a complaint. Smiling
