That's awesome Betsy! I noticed 'tails' on my Azureus that I was soaking yesterday ... 100% germination! I'm usually happy with that but the Mimulus I planted also came up yesterday and it looks like 100% germination on that .. the seeds were like dust. Looks like I'm going to be transplanting individuals after all once they get a few sets of true leaves. The Yellow Mallow Hibiscus, Pavonia praemorsa also germinated, 100%, that I like .. I was really astonished at that.

Yeahhhhhh indeed! My first monkey flowers .. excited about this one and hoping the patterning is as complex as the pictures I've seen.

They are real easy! Just sprinkle them on top of the soil .. they need light to germinate. I have mine in a south facing window.

Ah, mimulus are so cute! They don't like a lot of sun, tho. I have no trouble getting them started and blooming, but they do best in a fair amount of shade, at least here.

Woofie,
I like to slip a pot of monkey flower in a container collection the gets shaded by the other big planters of roses. Last year I had these.

I tried to keep a small pot of them growing indoors this winter, but they croaked on me after only a few weeks. Sigh. I love the colors in that first picture you posted! I've had them that color, and also sort of the inverse, with more white than burgundy. But they're so cute, I don't really care what color they are!

Thanks Joanna - your pictures are awesome! I hope mine look as good! Thanks Woofie for the heads up about the sun .. I'll move them to the back of the tray instead of front and center close to the window. I'm wondering how long it will take them to start producing true leaves. I'm astonished that they are coming up so fast .. especially the Caragana - all the info I got on it said 2 - 4 weeks!

I love this time of year - the first thing I do when I get up is to see what else may have popped up! Since the Lathyrus does best in colder weather I"ll probably be putting them in my colder greenhouse for a week or so then in the ground in about 2 weeks

I didn't have good success with my petunias last year. Don't know if it was me or the seeds.

Yes, Joanne is the expert. Joanne has updated all the info in the database, and if you want to browse or search it's a good place to start.

There are so many beautiful ones now though, it's hard to go wrong.
