Chris and Kevin - you guys are both correct!! Kevin I think my actual words to you about this were "They're not my favorite!" (in other words, if one must choose between no semps, or semps with that bicolor - I'll take the bicolor!) Afterall "Hi My name is Greg and I'm a sempaholic!" Another thing I noticed about myself - shape/form and texture outweigh coloration. Its funny but if it has a cute flat form like 'helveticum' or a wide open tall shape like 'gallivarda' then I'm happy regardless of the color!!
Stay warm and safe all!!!
Well I'm glad you admit your problem. There is a 10-step program but unfortunately it just makes the addiction worse.
The green/ red bicolors to me are gaudy and "gaudy sells". These are the ones that the non-semp person can say "that's just like the one my grandmother had". Of course there are others that fall in that category.
Actually you are in good company on this as Helen didn't like either the bicolors or the silvery-blue ones either. She liked the all reds and purples best. In fact she might have liked 'Fashion Diva' better than the one I named for her although I'm sure she would like BOTH.
A little warmer weather coming but I'm not moving the Remay from the pots until after this weather is over.
Kevin Thanks! Good company is always a good thing! Honestly I love 'em all! Today I took @Springcolor over to see my troughs - she said she expected them to look way worse than they do - so that's a good thing! I'm thinking that by next June they'll have filled in and be crazy!! (again!) And there is room for a few more semps!
Hmmm something new from KVaughn maybe!??
Greg's plants are beautiful but what a set back. They will be huge come June with nice colonies. The troughs are quit large and he has room for 2 or 3 more!!!!!
Kevin and Toby pump those new semps out onto the market.
It actually got down to 26° by the time I left for work this morning. Just a little nippy out. Had to scrape ice off the car windows.
I can't wait to see my semps in the morning. I haven't seen them all week. By the time I get home from work it is dark.
Peter, I will have to look in the morning, my brain is to tired to remember tonight. It is a great semp though.
It seems most of the time my favorite ends up being the one I am looking at for that moment in time.
A few of mine today. Streaker still looking good Hiddie showing a bit of color For you Greg Hedgehog Green Wheel Tectorum Sunset Dream Catcher Jungle Fires
I think there can be a lot of variation (microclimates). Statesman Journal forecast for tonight is 21 deg. It is 30 now on my front porch. I'm glad it is getting cold as it is knocking down the last of my, resistant deciduous plants and I can finish garden clean up.
I think there is. I think you are closer to the Cascade mountains than I am. I see we are headed towards a slightly warming trend, then back into the 20's at night for Monday night. Winter is just around the corner.
Definitely microclimates. My front yard faces the Willamette River and that side of my yard has never frosted in the 3+ years I have lived here. The back hillside though gets frosts fairly often. My Iris unguicularis has been blooming all week in the front yard, for example. The weeds are definitely still coming up in the front yard.
It has gotten cold here, much colder for this time of year than in the previous couple.
I'm sure there's something in my yard that will look good in the troughs Greg!
Have had rehearsals the last two days and a concert today so excuse my slow response. This will buy some more plants though!
