I agree For all of you, stay warm. Group hug

It is warming up some here, with about 2" of snow, and wind blowing. Brrrrrrr
So glad the semps have a snow blanket.

Wow COLD here in Oregon this morning. I was at 17F and I'm sure other parts of town were colder (the river is across the street and keeps me a little warmer). About 2" of snow too. Good day to stay inside!

I did rescue a bunch of seed pots that had started to germinate and after being brought into the kitchen window are germinating like mad. Should have quite a crop if all the pots germinate like these.

Lazlo, gorgeous shots! Thanks for sharing!

Great photos Laszlo. I particularly love the first photos and fascinated by the fasciated arachnoideum.

It was about 16°F here this morning, but is a balmy 21° right now, with about 2" of snow on the ground. Green Grin!
I've been bringing the humming bird feeders in at night and putting them back out in the early morning. I don't know how these tiny birds make it through this kind of weather.

I'm thinking about going out and see if I can get some winter photos of the semps, the wind was really blowing most of the day and night yesterday. Wonder if it uncovered some of them?

Lynn,

This weather is not my favorite! I think I'm with the hummingbirds on this one. The semp seedlings near the well house did lose their snow but the rest of the yard looks pretty snowy still.

Think there are over 75 up in the 'Frost and Flame' X 'Pacific Blue Ice' seed pot. I've already had dreams about the pretty blue ones from that cross. I'm sure Greg won't like them though as he only likes reds and purples. Some day he'll learn though.......

I know what you mean about the weather Kevin. And the hummers are fighting to claim territory, more so than usual.
Not sure about Greg, but I look forward to seeing those new blue semps. Oh heck, we know Greg will love them once he sees them. nodding

I went out this afternoon and played with the semps in the snow. It was wonderful seeing some of them peeking through where the wind swept the snow off of them.
Boy was it cold. Brrrrrr

Greg,

OK I guess it's just the green-red bicolors that you don't like then..... We'll have to change that.

If these pots of seedlings are anything typical I'm going to have enough seedlings to plant 10 acres. Suddenly i know how Skrocki must have felt with his shoe box of seed each year. Of course just think of all the fun seedlings that will come out of that patch! The mind boggles.

Hmmm will any of those 10 acres be up in the Seattle area?? Just curious! It may help to know, so @springcolor and I know if we have to raid your compost or not! Rolling on the floor laughing (you know "pack your boots" and all that!)

Well I MIGHT have exaggerated about 10 acres of seedlings but the 97 pots of seed should generate a LOT of plants, if these few that i have growing inside are any indicator. I am excited about seeing what 'Fashion Diva' and 'Red Hot Chili' might produce as seedlings. I have crossed the two. 'Fashion Diva' is a large red-black whereas 'Red Hot Chili' is a shiny but much smaller dark SHINY red. What I want is a BIG red like 'Red Hot Chili'. Hopefully the right seedlings are in that pot of the two crossed. There is a third sister seedling that Toby likes even better. It is very changeable but a bigger plant with wider leaves.

That is why 'Killer' so intrigues me as a parent. It gave me all sorts of combinations of colors, many very intense colors and such a range of forms, sizes and colors. There are seed pots of 'Fuego' X 'Killer' that I'm excited to see.

Plant breeding is a numbers game. I have been very lucky with much smaller patches of seedlings to still get some neat plants. Now with resources and space to do more in all my plant breeding interests (as Lynn can tell you semps are just the tip of the iceberg in terms of my breeding), I have a chance to fulfill some of these breeding plans. For example, in that group of 'Killer' seedlings, I could have obtained one with size of the unnamed sibling, the black-red of 'Fashion Diva', and the shiny leaf surface and shape of 'Red Hot Chili'. It has been a fun ride so far but I can't wait to see what the future will be.
