@Murky, I don't recall Harry Potter having scent but I will check when it blooms. I did cross them with my doubles like Premsup Yellow and Desert Biscuit that have mild fragrance.

Kyle, I soak them with a tbsp of hydrogen peroxide to a cup of water first. And yes, I agree even with my tiny fingers, transferring from paper towel to the dirt is quite tedious. And I did damage a couple roots but I think the roots do grow back.

Kyle, that greenhouse looks practical.

After the horrible spider mite troubles I got from paprikas that were taken inside when it started to near frost in 2021, I'm scared to take my plants outdoors.

I might dare to put some on the balcony (if we get around to fixing the floor boards - at the moment it's a death trap).

Thursday marked the day of 6 months of consistent snow. The earliest I could put plants outside to be completely safe from frost is mid June. And last year, we had a couple of frost nights in late August. It's not much of a season. With a greenhouse and a frost guard, I could probably double it.

Tracy's first bud of the second round of blooming this year opened up.

Both flowers had plenty of pollen, so fingers crossed! Crossing Fingers!

I am so nervous this will break, where is the Adenium? All seed pods.

"Gigi" the plumeria is a beauty, too!

I was wondering if anybody had tried wrapping the seedpods (loosely) with a coil of wire so they (maybe) can't split all the way open and release their seeds. You'd still be able to see the pod start splitting, so you'd know it was time to pick it and harvest the seeds. Do you think that might be a way to keep most of the seeds from blowing away without the hassle (and unslightly appearance) of bagging the pods?

I've done that too but the seedpods shrinks once they are ripe, so some seeds could still escape. I still keep finding seeds that escaped like this one Hilarious!

Fineline, her blooms are huge (see 4 petals), lost 4 seed pods from rot but four more seedpods are hopefully ok:

I use florist wire, pre-twist loosely around a pencil and wrap the almost mature seedpod until it is ready to split.

Great idea! Thumbs up I have tried velcro and twist wire but have not tried florist wire. Mostly if I can catch the split, I will harvest it and let it finish the process on my window sill. Like this Pink Pearl. One side not ready yet. Hopefully my germination test will show the seeds are viable. Look healthy to me.

That was Chandra last year. Lost to rot over the winter, along with most of her seedlings. Hoping the last 2-3 survive and at least look like momma plant. Among other losses last winter. Sad

Oh sorry to hear that Sad I have lost more "adult" grafted Adeniums this past "mild winter" than I did the year prior that was one of the coldest. I think the wet winter has a lot to do with that. Next winter I will put up the tents. Also when they are inside the tent, I am not tempted to give them a single drink.

Sorry to hear that too, Floridian. I hate to hear of anyone losing them, but especially when they're older.

And maybe Gigi's scent then came from the 2 possibilities that you cross-pollinated with Harry Potter. Either way I'm very happy with it!

It is a big plus, Premsup Yellow has a faint lemony but Desert Biscuit has a faint vanilla. My daughter noticed Desert Biscuit first. So I got 2 Desert Biscuit and if I see another one of Premsup or Desert Biscuit I will buy them again. I keep 2 as a back up.

[quote="Murky"Gigi, does your Harry Potter have a faint scent to it? Mine does, it's like a very faint mock orange scent (which to me smells like light banana scent). [/quote]

After handling every plant I own a couple of times this last week, I noticed that some do have a scent, I couldn't tell you what it is though.

Scented is a big plus as there are not many of them with scent yet. I have plumerias and a handful of Vandas and Cattleya becauseI love fragrance.

I'm not sure if it was the flower or the plant or the soil or something else. I lost my sense of smell after a really severe cold about 18 months ago(it wasn't covid, I was tested twice), I've started to get it back over the last couple of months but what I can smell doesn't always smell like what it is. So, don't take that comment as any kind of confirmation of anything. I don't trust my nose, and you shouldn't either 😛

I'm happy that mine don't have a scent. Due to allergies, I'm fairly restricted in terms what I can have in the house.

It's a very slight scent, you literally have to put your nose right next to it to smell it. So I doubt they'd bother anyone's allergies. I have a ton of allergies, plus strong scents, even pleasant ones, trigger migraines. I like a whiff of flowers here and there and that's it for even outdoor plants, so I can move a few feet and not smell anything.

That's what it is with my desert roses that have fragrance, very faint but you can smell better in the afternoon.
