I checked on my Mammillaria 'Plumosa' and it has rooted already. Hurray!

Speaking of which, are these two different plants? Thinking

Feather Cactus (Mammillaria plumosa)

Mammillaria (Mammillaria schiedeana 'Plumosa')

I didn't know they also have pink flowers. Lovey dubby

@Hamwild
I think you've found a DB glitch. The entry for M. schiedeana even identifies the name as a synonym, but a synonym only for Mammillaria!

I don't know the difference between M. plumosa and M. schiedeana 'Plumosa' (Stefan maybe does) but I will comment that the cultivar name isn't helping any. In any case I guess there isn't really anything better available.

The database lists the former variety plumosa as a synonym for the species schiedeana; the name Mammillaria is given as a common name.

Thanks Baja! I read the entry incorrectly. Was still drinking a.m. coffee. Should have waited to respond and read original post again.

I'd think Mammillaria would be a common name for a lot of cactus. Sort of like the use of Opuntia. More of a family apellation than a name specific to a cultivar. That's what I call several I'm growing because they arrived unlabeled and my best guess is Mammillaria. So I call them Mammillaria. Not helpful except in a general way.

Been there, done that. Nothing invigorates privet more than a good chain-sawing near ground level.

Can't really give input. Only seen one of them, never grown it. There might be a difference due to spines branching out, but not sure what that tells you about the genetics

I went to a nearby BBS and found a dried up purslane on the ground. I broke the stems off and stuck them in water:

That is why usually most visitors there, try to hop on right away to the beach resorts.

It is the peak of summer..hopefully more towards end of May the onset of rainy season helps.
I had to laugh how they now describe what weather is like in Manila, 'sweaty and wet'...it used to be we fondly say wet and wetter.

Decided to fill my large planter with some different flowers this year. My highlight plants are an orange lupine and soft blue iris.

Almost missed out on the Iris. I passed on it last time and regretted it. Just went back today and thankfully they had two left. All the beautiful blue lupines were gone, so I missed out on those. But I initially passed because they were so expensive.

Still debating whether to do a new sempervivum garden. I love designing them, but they've gotten so expensive suddenly...
