I had one a couple of years ago. Fragrant leaves and good for green infill, but otherwise not an especially interesting plant. I propagated it over winter for a few years, but it went during the purge of all my non-winter-hardy plants. They are very popular hardware store offerings here. Easy to start from cuttings, like their cousins the zonals.

I was primarily intrigued by the scent when ruffling the ruffled foliage. LOL! I'm glad to hear that plant is still going around "out there."

Definitely around. You might recall that those ruffled leaves are surprisingly stiff, not at all soft and fuzzy like many scented varieties.

I've sort of been following this thread and learned that they aren't so at home in humid climates. As you might suspect, they're easy to sustain in California or New Mexico and for years I believed a garden wasn't complete without a potted red geranium on the porch...BUT I finally got fed up fighting the tobacco (or geranium) budworms which have attacked every zonal I've owned for 30 years. I won't use 'cides, so it's tedious handpicking or ratty flowers. So no more, even though that's one I'd be willing to bring indoors.

Anyone else have them?

Lol I just went back to the very beginning of this thread and see that in July last year I posted the same complaint about budworms. Sorry for the repetition!

@evelyninthegarden try Geramiaceae Robin is a wealth of knowledge, I used to pick up new pelargoniums from her booth at the annual SF Landscape shows.
I do battle chewed blooms on some.
Peppermint-Scented Geranium (Pelargonium tomentosum 'Chocolate Mint') is one of my easy-to-grow favorites, fuzzy, very scented and care free, planted in the ground 11 years ago in a semi shaded spot, rarely watered and it probably has a 6 foot spread and needs cutting back as it over flows a pathway. The leaves can get big and vary in darkness, I often cut them for bouquets.


On a side note, how come this is in the Annuals forum?

The nursery pot fits perfectly in a large white porcelain pot. I'm hoping that the flowers are white so that I can plant the geranium in it.
I can't see any trace of color in the buds. I chose this one because the other plants had bits of colored dead petals stuck in the leaves.
