It was quite overcast yesterday (rain this weekend, yeah!) so I took a quick trip to the local rose garden to see what's blooming. Here are a few highlights.
This first one is called Mel's Heritage, named for Mel Hulse, the former curator of this garden. It's a Hybrid Wichurana bred by Paul Barden. http://www.helpmefind.com/rose... Small clusters of sweet blooms of pale apricot fading to soft pink on a tall plant they have growing on a pillar and also another big one along a chain link fence.
Note from Paul "This seedling was given to the San Jose Heritage Rose Garden in 2005 for trial purposes. I had neglected to follow up on this rose until recently. Reports of its superb qualities at the San Jose Heritage garden have encouraged me to consider commercial release of it, which may happen as soon as 2009. It will be a special release through the San Jose Heritage Rose Garden to raise funds for maintenance and expansion of the garden. It is now called 'Mel's Heritage' to honor one of its previous directors who was well known by many who visited the Heritage. Mel's contributions to the Heritage were instrumental in making it the world class collection it is today.

This is an old found rose named Portland from Glendora, also has several other names. It always catches my eye because it seems to be in bloom every time I visit and always looks so good. http://www.helpmefind.com/rose...

Rockin' Robin, a Weeks mini shrub
Camille Pissarro is a beautiful and entertaining Delbard floribunda that I always take lots of pictures of.
Polo Club, a pretty although weak HT, it's still the small pathetic looking plant I first saw 2 years ago.
The Temptations, a HT
Secret is one of the most beautiful and healthy HT roses I know, distinct too, I can recognize it in any garden now because of it's consistently perfect beautiful blooms.
Lagerfeld, a grandiflora (not too many of the lavender blooms look good, most of them are moisture spotted and it ruins the look IMHO, this one looked OK)
I can't imagine waking up to anything more beautiful than a Sue parade. What a feast, Sue! Gorgeous roses, and the photos are absolute perfection, as always. I love all of the detail -- the exquisite veining on Fred Howard, the myriad of petals on Portland from Glendora and Renny, etc.
I know you'll be adding these to the database later, so today I'll make sure we have entries for all of them.
