Walking the seedling beds yesterday afternoon I saw scapes in every seedling bed. If the nights would warm they would grow a lot faster, but you can't do anything about Mother Nature.
Yes, I feel like we are still in the deep freezer here in southern Indiana. Not really, but it has been staying in the 40's during the day. That's okay, let old man winter get it out of his system, then maybe he won't freeze out the blooms when they do come around. Not much is popping up around here except a few daffodils.

I agree, we can't do anything about mother nature. This time last year, the grass needed mowing.
This year is really cold with predictions of more snow. I keep saying hurry up spring, cause I'm
getting impatient with the cold. Every time the daffodils try to bloom, they freeze, so really bad
season for them. Oh well, in due time, I guess.

I enjoy seeing pics of the first southern blooms. I have pretty little crocus blooming and my hellebores. DH just noticed my hellebores and they have been in bloom since late Jan lol. Gotta love something that can withstand frigid temps. I need to add a few of the newer ones.
My first bloom was Wingbeats on March 24. It was windy that day and some spitting rain, so no picture. Yesterday and today Barcode bloomed even though the morning temperatures were around 45 degrees. Here is what he looked like this afternoon--look at those buds!!

Thanks, Arlene! : ) I bet I'm not the only one who's happy to hear about another Cold Morning Opener. : ) Every early spring, I literally take notes about comments and pics you guys make about CMO's.
Vickie, the bloom just hasn't opened right. It was chilly during the day as well as at night. I was just happy to see the colors that were there! It didn't look faded and the eye is ALMOST correct. Just a bit more heat, and Barcode will be strutting his stuff!
Okay, thanks Arlene. It sure is pretty:) It will be a couple of months before I see a bloom on a daylily. My tulips haven't even bloomed yet, but that's okay. This spring is more normal than last year's so I'm not complaining. Just hope the drasted drought stays away this year.

The scapes I first saw on Feb 28 got bit by the last cold weather we had about three weeks ago when we got in the 20s for a couple of nights, this has put bloom behind about two weeks compared to last year. The first bloom should be today on a dip uf seedling, the dips had sense enough to keep there heads low until the cold weather passed. The seedling beds are now covered with scapes and the blooming should start keeping me busy in a few days. I also have scapes on lots of registered plants.
I have one little seedling about to bloom. Im at least two weeks behind, if not three. Im worried my seedlings that havent scaped, wont. They are usually up first and I just dont have that many, and the established plants have started to scape. I did see the squirrels pulling down the branches on my rose bush yesterday, and eating the buds, they best not be doing that to my daylilies
Excellent, that means the others are not far behind. I have my first flower open today. Its a seedling, Im totally jazzed. Especially at the beginning of the season, keeper or not, its a winner. Its still kinda dark, so I havent given it a good look, only check to se if it had popped open, and sure enough it had.
So exciting! My tulips are just now beginning to bud so I know it will be a while before I see any daylily scapes! They say patience is a virtue, but it gets harder every year
