I grew Asclepias curassavica at my other house and didn't save seeds but my former neighbor and friend is going to give me seeds from her plants so that I can grow it again!

Yeah, I'm just hoping the butterflies will show up to lay eggs. Last fall no Monarchs did. Had spring caterpillars, but no fall ones!
I would feel more optimistic about a bright future for man if he spent less time proving that he can outwit Nature and more time tasting her sweetness and respecting her seniority. E. B.White

I can't believe it's the end of March already but I'm so happy to see the Butterflies returning. I spotted three different varieties in the yard this morning:
Eastern Tiger Swallowtail visiting the Pentas lanceolata flowers. He has a badly damaged wing ... but is still beautiful!
A Cloudless Sulphur visiting a Hibiscus bloom:
And, a Gulf Fritillary visiting the Pentas flowers:

I found some Pipevine Swallowtail eggs on a wild patch of aristolochia plants and thought I'd raise some at home. Didn't really think that the next morning they'd start hatching!

Wow...I see one little difference, but basically the same as our Monarchs. Beautiful, Ceci! And the bloom is lovely, too!

Same species, Ceci, but it might be a different subspecies. Not well known, but there are a few Danaus plexippus with small differences, even in areas of North America some are rarely noticed subspecies. Maybe the one in Ceci's first Monarch pic is Danaus plexippus ssp. erippus? There's some dark shading between two black lines of the lower wing. I'm excited to see it! http://naturalezademoreno.blog...
