It is really nice Ric designed it and it works very well. Oh, we live about a 30-45 min drive from Carlisle, Pa. and same time in the other direction will put us in Lancaster.
I'm not sure who the HGHA orders from but I think it is somewhere fairly close. I can get part of a flat of plugs like two of us will each take 1/2 a flat of coleus those flats are about 350 plants , Besides the Coleus, there are Sweet Cream Marigolds, Asylum, Begonia, Dragon Wing, Begonia Dwarf 6” and Bacopa.

People in my neighborhood seem to keep their curtains/shades drawn. I could not stand that. And I think we are the only ones who open our windows as well!

I know that area well. I used to work in mechanicsburg and we went to Hershey, York, Harrisburg a lot. Have you ever gone to Ashcomb?

I am going to have to check on getting plugs with someone. Sure would be nice to have coleus without growing from see, they are so slow. Mine ate still very small and I had very poor germination.

Yes, I've been going there for a good 40 years. Way back in the day I would buy plants from them Wholesale to sell with my Macrame and Pots. I think at that time I needed to spend $20 for a Wholesale order. LOL I retired from the Mech Base, did you work there?

I was going there when my kids were young, so about 30 years or so ago. I actually went there before it burned down.

No. I worked for a dentist...

When you do run out of the newpapers, you could always go to the newspaper office and purchase their end of roll paper. This is what was left on the press after printing, so there is no ink on it. It usually is rather cheap to purchase. When I was raising collies, I would purchase several rolls for when the puppies were around 3 weeks old, so I could mop up all the pee/and other from the puppies.... Didn't have to worry about them white feet turning black from the ink in the newspaper.
Blessings to you,
Jan

We have the GH packed again. We were a little pressed to get all our transplanting done since our plugs came in last Sat. and we leave for vacation tomorrow. Our neighbor is house sitting for us, tending the chickens and watering the GH. I hate leaving her so much in the GH but she seemed confident in her ability to take care of it. We really need 2 weeks in the surf, sun, and 80*F temps after this winter. Sticking tongue out

We will share with the Garden Club, our friends, kids, and our swap meet. The reason we have so much is we order some direct sown and plug flats from our GH Club. If no one wants to split you either give it up or take the whole flat, we took the whole flat.LOL

Confused Blinking

I don't get it? Sometimes I can be a little late to the draw......... *Blush*

If you order plugs from the GH club (also;...........?) and no one wants to split (?) what forces one to have to give up or take the whole flat?

From an outsider who has no clue to this type club, it sounds either kind, friendly and benevolent or a chance to make money maybe or............................? Hilarious!

Or! ...................................................................... Thumbs up
You will have tons of beautiful Coleus in your gardens this year for a great price and they are one of my favorite ornamental garden fixtures!

Ric, your growing GH photo inspires me to finish this GH project. I never intended to start seedlings but rather only use it for winter protection. But your beautiful annual seedlings draw me into the project! Nice job!!

DaveofD, we order direct sown flats and plug trays from a large corp. GH that will only ship full flats. Since we do a group buy to get wholesale prices, if no one in the club want a partial flat and you do you either take the whole flat or give it up. Market packs or potted items don't have this restriction. Plug flats contain 225-350 plugs running $26-$47. So essentially you get 350 coleus with 1 or 2 leaves, maybe 1/2" tall for $26. Open seeded flats can contain 600-800 seedlings and run $24-$98 for anything from snapdragons to high end wave petunias. As individuals we cannot qualify for wholesale but together we place an impressive order. We do the same for other items too, but since I do a group buy for our annual Garden plant swap, I get most of my stuff then. I can buy a3.8 compressed or 7cu.' bale of Promix B for $24, in the MD.& Va. metro areas this can retail for $40-45. "Strength in numbers" , comes to mind.LOL

Want to buy some coleus? LOL

Thank you very much for educating me about this group Ric. I truly appreciate your taking the time and I think it sounds like a really good thing indeed! I tip my hat to you. Thumbs up

I grow many Coleus myself and many times find I have to stuff them in somewhere under a tree or something to use the leftovers up. Oddly these leftovers with no soil amendment at all, and rudely plunked in the ground with a finger dug hole are often my best! Hilarious! Go figure?..........

Smiling David
