I still have not figured out the best way of growing cuttings but definitely mature stem seems to have better chance if dipped with cinnamon and ends allowed to callous for a few days, and leaving only the top 3 to 4 leaves. I had mixed success rooting in water.?The thin cuttings always rot on me.
Lately I experimented "air layering", which was a fail, I think I didn't cut out the cambium layer deep enough so it healed:
Air layering my rescue desert biscuit might be successful. I think I see signs of roots but not positive. This one has a crack so I got this on clearance 50% off. I let the crack dry and sealed the lower part with thin layer of wood glue then airlayer the top part.
The blooms stayed on so I know air layering is not hurting it:
Now I am experimenting on taking a mature cutting, removing the upper leaves and leaving only a few leaves on top, then I just stick it in the potting soil. However my potting soil was mostly moist on the bottom but the top 3 inches weren dry. Then I put a humidity dome to prevent the cutting from drying out. So far, it has been couple weeks and the leaves seem to be staying on and the cuttings not shriveled. I haven't watered them yet, And hoping to see new growths before "misting the top 1 inch only or bottom watering (at least an inch). The pot is 8 inches in height.
