LOL. I figured it was too good to be true since I did not see anyone else having success doing it that way. Will have to see if I can find the posting here. Potato plants! Mashed potatoes, yum.

I would guess that it was posted in thread chat about adeniums 2022 , what else we are growing, or succulent adjacent chat. Somewhere around 0ct 2022 to Feb 2023.

Edit: Found it..
Chat about adenium 2022, page 91 to 94, 18 Dec to 31 Dec, start till the result.

Yea it is a scam just for views and clicks. They super glue roots or blooms or stems to make them look like it is true. Hilarious!

For the curious here are the posts that were mentioned by TJoe:

I just added this photo in the beginning of the thread. My sister who lives in Australia sent me this photo she took, what a beauty this looks like it is cuttings grown:

That tree is beautiful, and I can see that using a cutting for something like that would be more appropriate.

That is my plan for my cuttings. What I noticed is cuttings from the rootstock or seedgrown seem to grow bigger faster compared to cuttings from grafted. Some would even develop fat roots resembling a caudex.

I agree , those rootstock grows faster, bigger and stronger, and with their average flower, made then selected to become rootstock. Grin

In May, I made my first attempt at propagating by cuttings. I was the Day of the Great Beheading when I pruned and repotted all of my Adeniums in one fell swoop. I don't have access to fungicide, so I used cinnamon powder. I dipped the cuttings in Clonex and planted them in Root Riot cubes soaked in water and Formulex and squeezed to be moist rather than wet.

Thumb of 2023-11-19/Ylis/284d16

I then made the mistake of placing a propagator lid over them. Several of them moulded right away. I took the lid off, but one by one, they rotted. 4 of the 16 survived.

Thumb of 2023-11-19/Ylis/4f7ac0

None of the Arabicums or Thai Socotranum made it and the ones that did survive (3 different Obesum and 1 Somalense) appear to support what people have been saying here, that you have a higher chance of success if you use grey rather than green stems. Though in my case, the selection is really too small to say anything conclusively. It may just have been that the surviving 4 were from plants that were stronger to begin with. Many of the mother plants were quite small. That said, the 3 surviving Obesum cuttings were from seeds that were sown 11 months earlier.

I still have not figured out the best way of growing cuttings but definitely mature stem seems to have better chance if dipped with cinnamon and ends allowed to callous for a few days, and leaving only the top 3 to 4 leaves. I had mixed success rooting in water.?The thin cuttings always rot on me.
Lately I experimented "air layering", which was a fail, I think I didn't cut out the cambium layer deep enough so it healed:

Thumb of 2023-11-19/GigiAdeniumPlumeria/604ba6

Thumb of 2023-11-19/GigiAdeniumPlumeria/8015b2

Air layering my rescue desert biscuit might be successful. I think I see signs of roots but not positive. This one has a crack so I got this on clearance 50% off. I let the crack dry and sealed the lower part with thin layer of wood glue then airlayer the top part.

The blooms stayed on so I know air layering is not hurting it:

Thumb of 2023-11-19/GigiAdeniumPlumeria/c2ea54

Thumb of 2023-11-19/GigiAdeniumPlumeria/3e6be5

Now I am experimenting on taking a mature cutting, removing the upper leaves and leaving only a few leaves on top, then I just stick it in the potting soil. However my potting soil was mostly moist on the bottom but the top 3 inches weren dry. Then I put a humidity dome to prevent the cutting from drying out. So far, it has been couple weeks and the leaves seem to be staying on and the cuttings not shriveled. I haven't watered them yet, And hoping to see new growths before "misting the top 1 inch only or bottom watering (at least an inch). The pot is 8 inches in height.

@GigiAdeniumPlumeria , I don't think that is 'the right way' to air layer adenium, we have different way of cutting for adeniums, and I am not sure if the normal method of air layering will work for Adeniums, so far I still hold the success rate of 100%, I'll find some time to document the process and share it here.

Yes please… that would be very helpful! Can you please post Some of your successful air-layered cuttings here? It's nice to see that even cuttings look beautiful too!

These are some of them, whenever possible, I will air layer the stem that already have branches, some prunnings will make them a tree like Adeniums.
Thumb of 2023-11-20/Kaktus/7c8d2f

These one in progress, already have roots, just have to wait until the roots are strong enough for separation.
Thumb of 2023-11-20/Kaktus/fbb402.

These are also air layered plants, 5 or 6 of them, still kept in communal pot as I don't have space for them, all multi petalled flowers.

My air layering failed probably because my plants went dormant. I am now trying to root what I cut off. Not very optimistic. Try again next spring.

Keep trying, this is almost a 5- year old cutting of Pinkie Pie. It developed fat root resembling caudex.

So many of the flowers look so similar, I have no idea how you tell them apart without nametags in each. Probably something along the lines of a mother can always tell her children apart. Hilarious!

Oh yes 😃 yes… but once all the mystery seedlings bloom single petals pink, it will be harder to tell each one apart.
