Under their "pond" tab they have lighted branches that can be used for decorations. Besides, the winners of the drawings get their choice of prizes anyway.

So wonderful that there are so many prizes available! Hurray!

Thank you Shoe and Bob.
Bob they should do well for you in NJ. The love winter.
Shoe, I'm not sure what your summers are like, but I don't think you have as much heat and humidity as some of the southern state have?

Lynn, unless he's in the mountains he sure does! Visited Duke a couple of years ago thinking it shouldn't be worse humidity than Detroit in the summer - oh boy was I wrong!!! Blinking Whistling

Yep, gets definitely humid here. And hot. Should I start worrying about my new semps? :>(

I had hoped to just keep them in well-drained soil/mix and hadn't considered humidity at all. No worries...I can always make house plants out of them in the A/C as it is much drier!

My Semps do great in containers. It is very hot and humid here in the summers, much like North Carolina. Most of the time you don't even have to water them here. The rain does it all for you. Last year we didn't water them any at all and they looked great. "Ruby Heart" is one that does really well here.

Thanks, Clint. That's really good to hear.

I'll start scrounging up some of my old terra cotta pots, I figure those should work best for semps, eh?

I will have to try containers. Winters are very wet here and the few I have tried have not overwintered well.

Clint, do you do full sun for your semps?

Bob, you can plant them in the ground in raised beds that drain well. We get a lot of rain in winter and spring here. But containers will do also.

The Ruby Heart plants are in full sun. We haven't watered them in two years, even during the hottest drought. They are just in regular Miracle Grow potting mix and still do great in pots. They are on the west side of the house. My new semps are in a more sheltered spot here on my covered patio.

Lynn - The 'Ruby Heart' photo I put in the database is my mom's plant. She has a bad habit of not watering her plants so I gave her those and told her not to water them. Rolling on the floor laughing I said, "Don't touch them." She has killed so many plants, but not these. Let's just say I didn't get my plant skills from her. Hilarious!

Clint,

I started looking at your images (with the talk of Ruby Heart and that's as far I got so far) and I noticed you plant them into containers. Do you leave them out all Winter?
