The French Connection which won a ton of awards and was innovative for the style of cop movies , the first use of things that have become cliche. Based on a real case.
Plant it and they will come.

Started watching DARK on Netflix, a little hard to follow in the beginning, think I'm going to enjoy it.

'Nine Days' is surreal without any special effects or flashy CGI crap.

Thumb of 2022-01-29/subarctic/2cb511
The setting is a modest house in a desert. Two men, one Black and one Asian, are there to evaluate several candidates for incarnation (that is, being born). They view the lives of their previous choices— some good, some bad—on a bank of TV screens. The tech stuff is oldish— videocassettes and such. The lack of attention to such details keeps the focus on the human drama, which is intense.

Zazie Beetz (Deadpool 2) is particularly good. The last scene is a monologue from a major American poet: guess who?

Nine Days sounds bizarre but maybe we'll try it.

News of the World. Tom Hanks, western..Ok. not groundbreaking, not going to get awards, but if you like westerns, 1870s, this'll do.
Plant it and they will come.

Watching the new Reacher series. Great for Lee Child fans or those married to them. Or just like action.

Found a 4 part series remake of Watership Down on Netflix that I watched over the weekend. If you liked the book you will enjoy this series.

Watching Foyle's War again. I watched it on PBS a long time ago and loved it. Still just as good, just as sad.
Started watching Tate British Art Walks - a terrific and fun way to learn about painters.

We liked Foyle's War too. The man had a way with words.. rather, a way with word. Trademark listening, an expression on his face and a Hmm. Smiling

I was watching Maine Cabin Masters again last night on that new Magnolia Network. Used to be DIY Network but now changed.

I can't stand any of the new shows there that I have sampled. This is Johanna Gaines idea of programing and well, to be polite I don't like it but that is putting it far too mildly.

One show she cooks dinner. Cooking Show. Another cooking show Andrew Zimmer goes and has dinner with different family each week. Well, he used to travel the world sampling wonderful restaurants. Still another show lady at her restaurant and her family story and you have to win a lottery to eat there. Shrug!

I like the old shows brought over from DIY like Maine Cabin Masters. Not the new ones like Clint's Restiration Road where they do too much talking!!

Anyway last night Cabin Masters did their usual really great renovation. But Ashley always has some cheezy decorative addition. This time a lamp made out of a half a Guitar!!

House painted slate grey, front door lemon yellow. Ashley always picks the colors.

After the reveal if I was the owner immediately repaint the front door and throw that lamp on the trash heap.

Only, the overall atmosphere is melancholy regret. It's fitting, but my SO flees the room as soon as the theme music is over - it's the only part he likes.

Oh, hey I just noticed:
"Why don't you love me like you used to do? How come you treat me like a worn out shoe?"
We dug out some old VHS tapes the other day, when the internet was down. One of them was 'Wag the Dog'. Still funny.

Foyle only comes around once a week, and all the good crime shows on Knowledge are either too dark or too often seen, so on off days, I watch Brother Cadfael on You Tube.
(Guess what! All the crazy didn't just start this century!)

Trying to decide which Oscar nominated movies I will watch. I've already seen Dune and King Richard. I'm thinking CODA and Power of the Dog, plus Nightmare Alley. Not too cray about subtitles, so I will probably skip Drive my Car. Can't decide if I want Will Smith to win best actor award for King Richard or Denzel Washington for The tragedy of Macbeth.
Best actors are a really good group of actors this year.

I honestly don't understand why DIY was dropped and a Network given to Chip and Johanna. I don't find a single one of the new shows remotely watchable.

Well, never watched any of these kinds of shows. I don't watch reality tv shows, either. I have a hard time keeping up with the few show series I do record and watch.
I have, however, indulging in the Olympics. A guilty pleasure.

I just haven't been able to get very interested in the Olympics this time. I used to love the skating competition when I was younger but not so much now. I'll probably just watch the reruns of only the top competitors. The Russian girl is very talented, as well as the US man.
There seem to be too many controversies in several different events.

I cant tell a triple axel from a hole in the ground..all skating looks the same to me. as some one said on facebook, it's the greater danger of falls that makes winter Olympics more exciting.. and I'm not watching anyway Whistling
Also dont watch reality shows.. they are scripted and not real in the least . I'll just watch 'unreality' Hilarious!
Plant it and they will come.

I'm watching my recording of Nathan Chen winning the gold medal for figure skating. Also watched Cloe Kim win her gold for snowboarding half pipe.
I continue to be amazed at these young men and women; how they train, what their lives are like. And these certainly are very talented young people outside of their sports, Nathan Chen is an accomplished classical piano player.
It would seem the Russians haven't learned their lesson about doping; it seems the little Russian superstar female figure skater tested positive for a banned drug right before the Olympics. Not sure at this point if this will cause the ROC their team gold in skating or her not competing in the ladies individual competition. She is the only female doing quad jumps. (Yes, I know ALL the jumps!).
