Yup, I will take a new photo as soon as I get home. I put them back in the windowsill where they were before and seem to be doing ok at. It is raining here all week so I didnt want to just shove them outside to drown.

Jackie, I've seen worse!! Once they're back outside the 2 or 3 that look the best will bounce back right away, the other 2 may take some time, but they should be okay too! I tip my hat to you.

Well thanks for the kind hopeful words there Greg....I hope they will bounce back as well. Do you think I should add those to my new little boxes when my DH makes them this week and just keep them outside? I know that they dont want full sun all day but how many hours of direct sunlight do semps need? I keep hearing different things. Should I try and keep them in partial shade most of the day or full sun part of the day and then shade the rest?

I think it depends on your location, the person who is the closest to you who has grown these for several years is Chris (Goldfinch4) and I don't remember if she grows hers where they get morning sun but less afternoon sun? I have some growing in a shadey spot so I'm going to see how they do this year, in winter its full sun, but in summer once the trees leaf out, its going to be shady. Mostly you want to protect them a little bit from that full on afternoon sun while they're small and vulnerable. Once they're growing with more vigour I think wherever you plant them will work! (but then again, I'm totally into experimenting and if it isn't working moving them) Thumbs up I tip my hat to you.

I agree, those don't look that bad. But that soil looks pretty saturated. They really need to be in drier soil after being injured. I would also remove the damaged leaves, they could start rotting and cause the entire rosette to rot.

I just misted the soil for the first time in the picture is why it seems a little wet. I didn't want it to dry out completely. I didn't realize heat would cause the chicks to rot but the leaves do seem like they could be rotting out a little but not sure why if they haven't been exposed to water.

The center rosette looks fine. But I do worry about the tiny ones. Not sure I would mist them right now. Just clean off the damaged leaves. Mist the new pot of soil lightly and place the cleaned up babies on top. Then let the soil dry out before misting again.

Jackie if the soil isn't really wet, just damp from your misting, then they should be fine, I would gently pull off the brown leaves. For now! I'm glad that middle one looks so healthy though! I tip my hat to you. Hurray!

Jackie, I live in Wisconsin so I'm not that far away from you. Most of my beds get morning sun, afternoon shade. I have one bed in full sun and that does OK this time of year. But later in summer when it gets real hot I have to put shade cloth over it or they get fried being in the sun all day.

Thank you Chris and Greg. When I get home from work I will be sure to remove any existing dead or brown leaves on them and make sure they are dried out a bit and not still moist.
Chris would I want to put them on the east side then? I think I have a good spot for it. I should have my new plants by the end of the week. Super Excited!!! Chris do you use Miracle Grow potting mix along with chicken grit for your semps. With our weather condition do you think it would be good for them in little 2ft by 2 ft beds? I was thinking 6 inches would be deep enough? I know Lynn said they dont really need to be to deep.

Ok, Soooooo Im here at work and my DH just told me he went to bid out a job today just outside of town. After he was done he was driving by and saw his buddies house and had stopped for a sec to say hi. While he was stopped he had found out that it was not his bud's house but his bud's moms house that he was living with. Outside her house she apparently has tons of Semps!!!!! He had mentioned that I was getting into them and really enjoying my new hobby and she gave him a whole bed of them!!! Hurray! I guess his friend just stuck them in a bucket and there are about 80 in there. I have not seen them but I am soooooooooo ready to get home and see what he brought home. He said many of them have tons of babies too!!! Thumbs up I asked if he could find out what the name of them were but she just said they were hen and chicks. He did send me a picture though and I will definitely be taking more pic's when I get home but here is the one I have so far. Do any of you know what she could be? He is going to make my little beds tomorrow as well just in time for my newbies coming in the mail!!!!! Hurray! Hurray! It's been raining here all day....should i let them dry out a bit before I plant them or just plant them and keep them outside like they have been?

Very pretty Jackie. It doesn't look like the run of the mill tectorum type. We will never be able to put a name to it, but it will sure be fun to watch it go through the seasons. Thumbs up

Do you think if I planted it in baskets it would do ok left outside in them? I just bought a whole bunch of them from the thrift store this last weekend. Should I let them dry out a bit or just stick them right in dirt where they were and stick them outside in the rain? I guess they are growing good so far outside in our weather.

They are already used to living outdoors during winter, I would plant them outside.
