Hello. I'm new to the Nat'l Gardening Assoc. and this forum. I was wondering if anyone might know what the white spots on my Amaryllis leaves are. I searched the internet and didn't find anything that resembled what I'm seeing on my leaves. I purchased the bulb ("Spotlight") from Gardener's Supply in October and I think it's a really good bulb. I have it indoors. However, I had to repot it right before the first stalk bloomed because the soil (from my local nursery) turned out to be infested with gnats. I repotted it in new potting soil that was stored inside the store, with a new pot -- and no more gnats. Hurray! The stalk produced 5 beautiful blooms. Now the second stalk is on its way, but I'm concerned about the leaves. Wondering if too much direct sun through the window can do this.

Thank you.

Welcome to the Amaryllis forum Hurray! I think that the bulb is just fine. Sun scorch would show up on the whole leaf. From the position of nearly a straight line across the leaves, it looks as if something happened before the leaves emerged. I wonder if there was some trauma to the bulb in storage or shipment that could have caused what you see. If this doesn't spread up the leaf, I think it is just cosmetic. Fungus gnats are a real pain, and the eggs could have been in the potting mix. Gnats will spread to your other houseplants.
There are lots of home made treatments for controlling them, such as fly strips and watering with dilute hydrogen peroxide. But it is better to start out with a good potting soil and keep the soil as dry as possible, since the adults are attracted to fungus in the soil, where they lay their eggs. Please post a photo of it in flower when the next scape blooms, since we all enjoy seeing the different varieties.

Thanks so much bsharf for your quick and helpful reply! I tip my hat to you. I see what you are saying about the marks forming a straight line across multiple leaves. I'm glad to know that it's not likely something that will threaten my bulb. I'm a bit of a newby with Amaryllis -- I might be overprotective Hilarious! . Last year was my first bulb.

I have some pictures of the flowers on the first stalk of this year's bulb (Spotlight), so I'll post those here. Thank You!

Denise: Pretty blooms and excellent quality photos. You should post them to the data base. When you click on each photo a blue image of a stacked file appears at the bottom. Click on that and follow the directions. If you have trouble, I believe that I would be able to add them.

Thank you Barbara. I will post them to the database. And I'll share the flowers from my second stalk when they appear. Thank you again. D

Hello Barbara and everyone. The second stalk on my Spotlight Amaryllis is getting read to burst. My first stalk did very well (5 blooms) despite my gnat problem. Repotting was the right thing to do. Now the plant is thriving. Looks like I should be getting 4 or 5 blooms on this stalk as well. I thought you might like to see the "bursting" in progress Smiling I will post additional pics when the blooms are in full force. Thank You! for all your advice and insights. ~Denise

PLEASE ANYONE? What is this? I've been doing so much research and I cannot find it anywhere! Literally about to go to Barnes and Noble 🥺 I'm scared for my baby but honestly not gonna lie it's doing very well in this period. It's sprouting plentiful and growing well. I just don't get it? Is it sun scorch? Honestly I moved it away from where it was because of the possibility of being such. HELP PLEASE, THANK YOU! <3 Group hug Hurray!

Welcome to the site!
Where is the plant located? By any chance has any sort of substance been spilled on it?

Sun damage?
Was it placed outside in full sun-for even a few hours- after growing inside?
I've done that myself....

it could possibly be a sun scorch. See if new growth looks better. Wish I could give you a more definitive answer.

The new growth looks way healthier it stopped spreading it's only at those little spots it's in now. But nothing new from it. I moved it from a sunny window to a more indirect shaded area that's on my dresser. It's been doing so much better right there. I'm thinking it may be sun scorch , from the window. I do still take it outside for a bit now because of the indirect area though. Sighing! Thinking
Sad I'm stressing because I am going to be leaving on a trip soon, gotta leave it with a trusted plant family member and I just wanna be sure it'll survive the while I'm away and not
