I always try keeping a few Hollyhocks as they really are always seen in Cottage Gardens,..most of mine return every year though seeds need to be sown to replace those that didn't survive the Winter,..Rust does appear around the second month though it only spoils the leaf and not the bloom,..they bloom from July to October here.

Those are beautiful Phillip. Drooling Drooling I've always avoided hollyhocks because of the rust issues. It may be worth giving them a 2nd look. I'll have to look for some that don't grow too tall. Thanks for the eye candy. Thumbs up

It's funny how our memories effect our perception of things. My wife loves almost any flowers but she thinks hollyhocks are to cover trash cans. Where she grew up many people planted tall flowers to hide their bins.So hollyhocks and larkspur aren't planted here. Lovey dubby Hilarious!

Hilarious! I quite often see pics of beautiful flowers and think what is that lovely bloom. But I just can't get those memories of the old Hollyhocks growing in front of the trash cans. I can enjoy pics of individual blooms but as a whole plant I just don't want to see them.

Make a hole in the bud (for head) or a small flower for headdress. Stick stem in the hole= doll.

Depending if a bud was a small flower, we could make processions with them, Dolls with bud heads, followed by dolls with headdresses slightly open, followed by a full blown one. I am told they are on u-tube, but using toothpicks to hold them together. We didn't bother.

Not sure if this is what the rest of you consider a cottage garden but this is my rendition of a cottage garden here in the mountains of New Mexico ,😁
