I find myself looking at clearance racks more often these days, especially after I discovered I can easily make them into beautiful plants for a fraction of the original price. All it takes is a little tender loving care.
It was nice and breezy today...my Walmart clearance bulbs from last year are starting to bloom. I cut the first three blooms this morning and added some roses....viola! My co-workers will for sure enjoy these when I bring these to them tomorrow.
Clearance bulbs are tricky... You have to make sure they are not rotted or moldy when you buy them. throw away any deformed bulbs. Healthy plump clearance bulbs will produce gorgeous blooms!

I was at Lowe's the other day and found Penstemon 'Red Rocks' for $3!
I've grown it before, but lost it, so I was very happy to find it and for $3! Still looks pretty good. I have to remember to leave some of the stems/seeds on for the next year (reseeding).
I bought some clearance succulents their too for 50% to 75% off. In our Lowes if you find succulents with missing plants, I look for the Manager of the garden center and they are very much generous with giving discounts. Here's my succulent clearance collections:
I planted some already on grandmas approximately 45 year old fish planter:
I'm sorry to hear that Deb. That is sad that some stores are less customer friendly. Our Lowes (we have 2 near my home) store managers here are very accommodating....very customer friendly. Our HD (we have 2 also) store managers are nice too.
Must be that they are competing with the same customer base so they make sure their customer service is excellent.
Hi there everyone. I have recently gotten into the habit of looking for clearance plants and nursing them back to health. I've picked up a few orchids for $1 at the Lowe's in Chelsea but being in Manhattan they don't have very much in terms of plants and flowers. Is anyone else in the area and willing to share the location of a store with clearance plants? Home Depot never has clearance racks and when I asked they told me that they send the plants back.

Hi Darryl. Welcome to NGA!
I don't know about Lowes in Chelsea or Manhattan, but the one near me in Everett, WA has MUCH better "clearance plants" than the Home Depot near me.
It's a problem if you don't have your own car - how to get from the train or bus station to a Lowes? If the time is right for discard plants, I would think that almost any suburban Lowes WITH a garden department WOULD have some clearance plants.
My walmart has some beautiful Heucheras but other than those everything else is on sale. Any idea when does Walmart closes its plants section? Currently they have just 2 racks of plants.
I am new to the forum. I am sorry if i planted this msg in the wrong thread.
