It is called the "Queen of Cattleyas" for a very good reason.
Nothing finer then purpurata. Thumbs up

I am still dreaming about my old L purpurata 'Treasure of Carpinteria' x 'Flamenco', I loved that plant. This was in June 2006

I thought it was gorgeous! Then came the next Spring and as I always did, I moved my Orchids into the cage. But, for some reason that Spring we had a Slug invasion! I pretty much had to repot everything, any older medium had a slug in it. They were under rims and just voracious! I learned that coconut fiber over the drainage hole in the pot prevented them from crawling into medium. I was outside at early mornings dumping slugs into salt water.
Well, they killed that gorgeous purpurata! When I saw some reasonably priced plants at Stony Hill a few months ago, I had to try again.

It is quite obvious why you loved that plant! That is just a wonderful job in growing it and flowering it.

The plant is so beautifully grown, I would take that first photo and have it printed on canvas and hang it on the wall.

@Prabhisetty
can you be more specific? I am trying to figure out which Orchid species you are talking about, but I am not finding it.

I think it was published in Kew Bulletin, The paper features ,one of which is Saxicoella ' denieae or Denise' Saxicolella..This information is from Phys. Org.
I hope the information would be helpful.

Argh, very annoying! I had watched this thread and for some reason it un-watched. It's been happening to my brother too. He mentioned it first and it got me to thinking why I haven't seen any posts from this thread (which is typically very active.)

I can't find the genus Saxicoella.

Denise Saxicoella is not a valid name either. "Denise" is not an orchid genus.
Could Saxicoella be the species name??? Denise is likely a clonal name.

'Something' saxicoella 'Denise'
This is why orchid names are so important. Spelling is vital.

Oh my, there is a group of orchids that I never heard of. What little I saw indicated very little success cultivating any of the species.
Interesting to say the least.

I wonder how much remains undiscovered or unknown from Australia?

I pressed watch thread again today, and yet it didn't pop up in my thread watcher from your guys' recent posts. I don't know why it's not on my watch thread. Confused
