might be able to "fix-it-any-way-you-want-it" at the next repot .... next spring
those roots that become "limbs" (like this one when lifted or raised) often have a mass or "clump" of fine roots below the soil surface .... these fine roots do not look like the bigger "main" roots that are often white ....the fine roots are much darker in color (tan to dark brown) and very fine
at next repot ...gently knock off all the potting mix ...then wash the caudex in clean water........you might be able to manipulate, jiggle, shake the root mass free ....
sometimes a chop-stick or other stick, is helpful
when filling pot with potting media - twist or turn your root mass at a desired angle then weight down with potting mix
sometimes when lifting or raising - while plant is bare root and loose - when positioning into pot - will turn the entire root ball a full turn, half-turn or quarter-turn .....or, up then back down over itself
