That's a fun idea! From that angle, it looks like an arm.

I just noticed that the twisty weird root I wanted to keep exposed is straightening out as it's plumping up. I liked it all twisty and gnarly before and was hoping to keep that look. Hilarious!

This is how it is now:

And this was back in June after I repotted it and raised it some:

might be able to "fix-it-any-way-you-want-it" at the next repot .... next spring

those roots that become "limbs" (like this one when lifted or raised) often have a mass or "clump" of fine roots below the soil surface .... these fine roots do not look like the bigger "main" roots that are often white ....the fine roots are much darker in color (tan to dark brown) and very fine

at next repot ...gently knock off all the potting mix ...then wash the caudex in clean water........you might be able to manipulate, jiggle, shake the root mass free ....

sometimes a chop-stick or other stick, is helpful

when filling pot with potting media - twist or turn your root mass at a desired angle then weight down with potting mix

sometimes when lifting or raising - while plant is bare root and loose - when positioning into pot - will turn the entire root ball a full turn, half-turn or quarter-turn .....or, up then back down over itself

like

I'll definitely have to give that a try when I next repot it, which I'm thinking shouldn't be until spring maybe? before new growth starts, right? Since it straightened itself out, I was thinking just try and wrap that root around the caudex at this point, I didn't know how to keep it from unkinking itself again like it did here.

winter is coming

since adeniums take *forever* to "get over" changes, and respond - from repotting, lifting, pruning - do all the "maintenance" during early spring ...then the plant has all summer to recover ....

next spring ....while still indoors - get an early jump start - as soon as you see new growth starting to emerge .... do all your pruning, reshaping, repotting ....then leave inside, to allow for those cuts to callus over ...thus, keeping any cuts high & dry and less prone to root or stem rot ... when night temps begin to hover above 50°... plant can go back outside

I shouldn't have to prune it at all next spring, but the rest I'll do very early spring so it's ready to go outside as soon as possible for more sun. I'm thinking about moving it morning and afternoon so it catches full sun as early and as late as possible. I should be able to give it 12+ hours of sun in the summer if I do that to help with flowering.

You are doing great I tip my hat to you. I just rescued one from Lowe's that may be a cousin of yours, since it came from the same vendor in a fancy pot with no drainage!

I didn't prune it because I am hoping to see it bloom this year. I had to trim some side roots but there was not much roots. If it blooms... you will likely see similar bloom as yours! Hope you have a longer sunny days so you can see the blooms.

my plants get about 8 hours of sun throughout the day ...about an hours worth of semi-filtered morning sun - then shade to about 11:30am ...then full sun until sunset ...6 to 8 hours is a good number

treat adenium like a tropical plant during the summer months ...water to saturation - especially when its hot ..... stop watering in the winter months

the usual flowering time here is June July - with sporadic flowering during the rest of the year ...further north where you are, add about 3 weeks

flowering may not happen if the tips of branches are cut or pruned off too late

for near consistent flowering: water, along with a balanced slow release fertilizer (14-14-14) + an additional fertilizer containing all of the micronutrients: Boron, Calcium, Copper, Iron, Manganese, Molybdenum & Zinc at least once a month

Gigi, be sure and post pics if it does bloom! No guarantee it'll be the same, but I'd at least know there might be a chance for single, double, etc.

Thank you both for the tips. I don't think there's enough sun left during the days for it to bloom, it might get 6 full hours, but I'll keep caring for it the same just in case until I have to bring it inside. I pruned it late June, but in the long run, I'm not sorry I did it even if it stopped blooms so it could start getting a better shape.

I'd rather not force constant blooms, I don't think it's the healthiest for the plant. I'm fine with it going dormant while inside and not trying to finagle unnatural timing for it.

This is my 2nd DR from L's. It looks similar to the one I already have, but we will see. The rationalization that convinced me that I needed it was "they probably won't bloom at the same time." Juicy, huh?

That is a very nice and full one, and yes, that's a great trunk. I'm still watering mine, but really don't think I'll see any flowers until next summer.

Oh Lovey dubby it is loaded with buds!

There is a higher likelihood that it is a different color but even if the same, your first one has a beautiful color so you rationalized it perfect!

I very rarely shop, but when I have seen Adeniums
@ L's, they do not have blooms on. The first time I saw any was April '21.

Also spotted some little seedlings in the clearance on Friday, just a few inches tall, 1 stem, originally marked $20. What in the world? Even at half off & with cute little cache pots, didn't seen worth the $. The ones that are 5x as big are $25.

Yes the bigger ones are worth it. And mine has grown big in just a year. I read that they grow fast the fist 5 years then they slow down a little bit. Most of my 10+ years old hasn't gotten any bigger.

if you went to Deepsouth's adenium farm ...6" potted adeniums would set you back $35- .... discounts for quantities.... and friends

and that is a bargain ....considering how long it takes, and all the associated expenses
