As per Vic, thanks for the information, Terri.

As you say, they'd need cold stratification.

In our back garden, the only primulas that have noticeably seeded, naturally, are Japanese primula, a Primula species,. Below; 'Miller's Crimson'

The Japanese primulas are candelabra primula and have the advantage, here, of blooming a little later than the early/mid May splash of Primula colour provided by the Polyanthus-type and other Primula.

Some of the Polyanthus type Primula are looking better than others.
I'm wondering whether some older Primula cultivars might hold out longer/ retain their looks longer than some newer ones (latter, Crescendo seres). On the other hand, maybe it's just related to precise locations in the garden.
An older cultivar:

Re hellebores, with their long bloom time, I also wonder whether some hold out longer/retain their looks longer than others (e.g perhaps those with white, rather than pink or red flowers).

Now need to get rid of some of Virginia bluebell. Too much for the size of our small garden.

Went with poisonous spring bulbs last year (voles, rabbits).
Snowdrops happen to be the first spring bulbs to bloom and daffodils just about the last.

Charlie, most of your blooms are familiar plants but sometimes you post something that is a first heard for me. The Cowslips (Primula veris) that you posted a few days ago is one example and now Spring Pea is another. I'm loving both of those and will be adding them to my gardens. I finally found a source for the double blood root that I have seen beautiful photos of in your gardens, but woe of woes the 3 plants that I purchased last spring did not come back this year. I'll have to try those again one of these days.

Thanks, Vic, Mike, Gary, Terri and Arlene.

Terri, I'm still conflicted about what name to use with some of the at least showy cowslip-primrose-hybrid cultivars (e.g. 'Perth Sunrise'). With the latter, I'm certainly tending towards "hybrid cowslip".

The spring pea is another of the perennials I became aware of at Merlin's Hollow (see picture below: scree bed: (May 13, 2017)). The purple flower and, I think, the pink:

Also, Terri, David (Merlin's Hollow) originally gave me double bloodroot. With our own small garden, I'm currently going to have to divide our block for a second time. If you lived around here, I'd simply be passing some on to you.

Charlie, I always enjoy seeing your blooms. So many nice perennials.

I hosted our Mid Atlantic group's spring plant swap on Saturday. One of the MAers took some photos of the gardens and posted them on our swap chat thread. Here is the link if you want to check it out.

Very scenic and very well maintained.
Do you have others helping you to maintain the property?

Was there anything in the swap which you really liked?

I'm in PA visiting dd and will see Terri on Thursday. Can't wait to see her beautiful gardens.

Charlie, my husband's sister Bonnie lived with us for a few years after her husband passed away and now lives in a cottage on part of our property. She has been a huge help to me in the gardens for years now. For the last two years though the gardens were totally neglected while I provided daily care for my mother so it was a massive effort to get them back in shape. In addition to Bonnie, my husband helped as did their younger brother Richard, and Richard's neighbor Casey, especially during the last few weeks. In normal years, it is primarily me with Bonnie's help doing the maintenance though.

Oh, and at the swap I didn't dib much this time but I did get some helleborus foetidus - rarely see that for sale anywhere locally but one of the other gardeners has it spreading in abundance in his yard.
