Don't mind the snow under ten inches. The ice gotta go. Going to try and finish mulching up the leaves the next few days. Wishing everyone good health for the long up coming holiday season.

Was a very long, cold, snowy winter up till two weeks ago, when we actually started to see some snowdrops. We don't usually see the first until mid March. Have had a nice warm spell for most of the time since then; quite a melt and the garden's now almost all snow- and ice-free at the surface. Today back to the cold, though just a sprinkling of snow. Have to admit we didn't suffer the whole cold time; especially loved Martinique.

Like to think it'll be an early spring, but don't think that's predicted.
Still happy with the evidence of good things to come!

We had one week in the 70's and I was able to get some beds cleaned but haven't touched my perennial garden yet. We've had so much rain and now getting cooler again. March is going to tease us I think.

Nice vacation spot I tip my hat to you.
I haven't done much in the garden. Just a little clean up here and there. I will tackle mine soon.
Got some seeds to start.

Hi Mike, sounds like both Vic and you are closer to gardening than me. Would really like to get going.

Loved the islands, but between their former volcanic eruptions and especially recent hurricanes, not unhappy to live here.

I should really get back to growing some things (maybe more primulas) from seed myself.

I am closer to cleaning up the garden. Vic in NC should be way ahead of us. I only have two Primulas that keep coming back. Going to divide them after they bloom this spring. The yellow one look like one of yours Charlie. I believe mine was just bought as a mixed package.

I love those, Mike; those types of early showy primulas (Polyanthus-type) really are among my favourite perennials.

Superficially, the yellow one looks a bit like the wild primroses we picked as kids in England. (Suspect you're not supposed to do that now). Still it has a deeper colour, and as you indicate, must have come from a seed strain such as the Danova Series. Mind you that probably's not saying much; there's even a pink wild subspecies (not a garden escapee) growing in the wild there.

We have the colour of the top one in some of our Crescendo Series primula, but they have the cowslip flower stalks. Am sure that colour's present in many of the seed strains.

Think the colours shriek "look at me". And I'm very happy to oblige. Thanks, Mike.

Those are just beautiful Mike - So bright and cheery Thumbs up

I did get the perennial garden cleaned up yesterday. Cut back all the dead stuff. Nothing blooming but daylilies are 3 or 4 inches out of the ground.

Cleared the perennial bed; good for you, Vic.

Here's where our daylilies are today; namely our likely most vigorous daylily, 'Mint Condition'.

Thumb of 2018-03-04/SunnyBorders/56c618

Vic's and my friend, Sharon, was the one who influenced me to include horticultural daylilies in mixed perennial beds.
Now realize what useful plants they are and couldn't do without them. Find that, over years, you have to work at many perennials,
but feel that daylilies are one of those that are easiest on the gardener. Just as important, they contribute a lot of attractive flower colour for a relatively long period of time.

Charlie - Larry recently posted a link to a daylily he ran across - Look - at - this Crying

https://bellsdaylilygarden.com...

and check out the parents names Lovey dubby Definitely fitting for Sharon.

We told Larry we would be happy to chip in so he could grow it and then he could give us divisions but he said it wouldn't grow where he is. This hybridizer lives very close to Arlene so she said if the price comes down, maybe she will get it. We told her the same thing. We'd chip in and take divisions.

Thanks, Vic.

What a fitting tribute; a beautiful daylily, named for a beautiful person.
If I can chip in for Arlene or yourself, please tree-mail me.
I learned a lot from Sharon, but more than that; it was such a pleasure to have Sharon around.
Not forgotten!!!

I will wait a bit to see if the price does go down. Also, if Larry doesn't feel he can grow in Iowa I'm doubtful you could grow in Canada. BUT, that said, at some point I WILL get this daylily!!! And of course I will share!
