Debra, from what I see it is easy to grow leeks. I watched Y-Tube videos on growing leeks.

Busy today. I had to plant all my new stuff! Here it is.
Thumb of 2013-06-01/Newyorkrita/4fceec

Now I have to drag it all off onto the driveway so it can join all the other veggies already there. I want to re-arrange the veggie pots before I do that so I will wait till tomorrow. It is hot in the sun but not so bad if you stay in the shade. I have been working on the potting in the shade all afternoon.

Closeups.
Mystery melons. Marked down cantalope seedlings with no tag. I know they are cantalopes so they are ok by me. That is a 20 inch pot I put them in.
Thumb of 2013-06-01/Newyorkrita/970686

Three new eggplants, one in each pot.
Thumb of 2013-06-01/Newyorkrita/50fc5f

Tango celery. Ended up I had 4 plants after I seperated them. Yea!
Thumb of 2013-06-01/Newyorkrita/2ff36b

Leeks. Ready for hilling. Smiling
Thumb of 2013-06-01/Newyorkrita/e9074d

Yard Long Beans. Gew these myself from seeds and just transplanted into the pot.
Thumb of 2013-06-01/Newyorkrita/2ff11d

Savoy cabbages. Again there were 4 seedlings in my little supposedly one plant pot.

My seeds came from Burpee so I just sowed 4 each seeds of the Baby (good for containers) Okra and the Tivoli winter squash. I intend to put them in two twenty inch pots like the one I have the melons in. Sowed four seeds to make sure that something comes up. But only going to do one plant per container. But I am trying to think up a spot were I coould but some of that okra in ground.

Well, I doubt I could find any local takers for Okra! Rolling on the floor laughing But thinking I will have a lot of zucchini and squash.

But really most things I have a very small amount of. Like I just planted those four cabbages. Four cabbages are not a lot.

Way to go Rita! Hurray!

I think your pot is too small for your zucchini, your little fruit is already touching the side of the pot with no where to go, they can get real big in a couple of days. nodding

Margaret, I think I might have underestamated the size pots needed for the zucchinis. I have never seen fruit grow so fast. This morning I have a baby zucchini that has already grown to 7 inches and it would be longer if it wasn't slightly curled (Touching pot). The next largest is 6 inches. I am really looking forward to frying up those two fruits! Can't wait for them to be ready.

But I am not about to repot the zucchini. They will have to stay as they are. But the spagetti squash will go in my new 20 inch pot as it is bigger. Just started seeds yesterday.

All right! So I dragged my pots to the driveway and re-arranged all my veggie pots so now it is nice and organised. Things that belong together are together, not just thown in the next availbale spot as they were planted out. I am SOOOOOOOOOOO pleased with my driveway veggie garden! Big Grin

Closer on the garage area. I have pots and stuff there and I often work there so it is messy. On the table are my bowls of dill, parsley and cilandro I am waiting on sprounting. Two pots of Sugar Lace II peas directly in front of table. Then off to the right are two CLASSIC eggplant in big wide pots.
Thumb of 2013-06-02/Newyorkrita/d01369

Now lets start from the bottom and work up thru the veggies.

Zucchini starts the garden rows. Leeks snuck in there.

This is the melon row. It has the mystery melons I planted yesterday, the Green Machine melons and the Armenian Cucumbers (which are technically not cucumbers at all).
Thumb of 2013-06-02/Newyorkrita/3f1a3e

Mostly Eggplants. Celery and yard long beans also in there.
Thumb of 2013-06-02/Newyorkrita/b31324

Bok Choi. The chard bowl will go there as soon as I move it.
Thumb of 2013-06-02/Newyorkrita/0f5e57

Cabbage and cowpeas rows. Cabbage, cauliflower and bush beans in flats. Cowpeas in those black pots at the front. That little bowl of zucchinis will be tossed. Those are the extra plants I kept in order to have male flowers earlier when I only had female flowers.

I often used to think that the driveway was the perfect spot for veggies as it is always in the sun. I just never thought of all these pots before. But I never grew eggplant and zucchini before and needed space!

Rita, you can't say we didn't warn you about the zucchinis and how fast they grow. Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing The zucchini are best at about 6 or 7 inches so you can eat now, even smaller to use in salads, eating raw or in stirfries. nodding

I was just wondering. Does anyone make zucchini the way they make eggplant with the Marinara sauce and the grated cheeze? The only way I make it is either raw in salads or stir fried with a liitle onions and garlic.

Rita, you are going to be so healthy eating all those veggies. Thumbs up

I have seen zucchini lasagna, zucchini rolls, I love stuffed zucchini, zucchini boats, layers of tomato and zucchini slices sprinkles with spices and cheese and baked. Google and I bet you can find lots of recipes that will suit your tastes. nodding

Well, I had been thinking this morning that the zucchini would be ready in a day or two but Margaret and Natalie both said it is ready now!

I am thinking I will try zucchini sliced with Marinara sauce and baked. Seems like it would be good. And I have a feeling I am going to have to eat a lot of it. Rolling on the floor laughing Will Google for more receipes. But it has to be simple or I will never make it.

I always eat a lot of veggies fresh from the garden once my veggies start to produce. I just never had zucchini or eggplant in my garden before.

Love raw peas. But would rather have raw zucchini in salad. How about sliced with cucumbers and dressing of sour cream? Yummy, I bet.
