Well its that time of the year, in the Northern Hemisphere, to finalize ordering bulbs for this winter. For American customers, one of my favorite online companies, Amaryllis Bulb Company, has just posted their fall offerings. A few are new ones for me. We would love to see all of your new blooms.

This is Nyora, currently offered by ABC. I just reordered it from them. However, I just found these photos in my 2012 amaryllis file. I have quite a few pictures that didn't get transferred from Dave's Garden to NGA. I remember it as a very sturdy, clean salmon colored bloom and look forward to growing it again. Oct 30th, FYI: ABC just notified me that they did not receive their ordered Nyora bulbs. I'm glad that I found these Nyora photos from my back files. .

Emaryllis.com pointed out that the cultivar Silver Queen is being sold this year by some growers as Silver Dream. I was curious about a possible name confusion, when I realized that the catalog photos for Silver Dream looked just like my 2021 posted photos of Silver Queen.

Eamaryllis.com confirmed, what I had suspected, that Royal Colors in the Netherlands has gone out of business.

Hurricane Ian left the outdoor Amaryllis leaves beaten down and tattered. Much to my surprise, ten days post storm, one of the bulbs is in bloom. I am guessing that this is H. Nymph. To me, this is a sign of hope and rebirth after the devastation and heartbreak of Ian in Florida.

May I ask questions in this thread? I have three bulbs that are somewhere close to 30 years old and they went completely nuts this year - I am pretty sure that they are gearing up to flower for the fourth time this year: each had 3 stalks in February-April, more stalks than usual but on time; then each had a stalk in July, which happens occasionally, but then two of them decided they weren't done yet and made a stalk each in September which I have never seen before. Is that an "extremely happy" or a "death imminent, have to reproduce" behavior?... Thank you

I would think that they are extremely happy, with a 30 year old bulb, it has obviously been well cared for! Pictures are always appreciated!

Oh, great that they are probably not dying, they are only a few years younger than me and I'd be very sad :D
Pictures, they are the generic red ones
1. Winter flowering (flash in an unlighted room gives great background; all but one stalk also had full set of four flowers)
2. July flowering
3. July pre-flowering (shorter stalk than usual, probably due to summer light)

FYI, Dec 3rd NGA Newsletter. There is a article by Barbara Pleasant, "Elegant Amaryllis". Good basic instructions for anyone starting out with a newly purchased or gifted Amaryllis bulb.

Hi from York Pa. I've been growing hippies for 52 years and like to connect with others who grow them too. Only have a dozen bulbs now due to space limitations. Thanks!!

White Candle from Amaryllis Bulb Company. A beautiful big showy white cultivar with a pale green throat. If you are looking for a spectacular white, this really fits the bill.
