My only order this year, nelda's joy from Brook's garden. I am happy with this one, it's almost as thick as my wrist with 3 big eyes (one looks damaged, not sure if it's from my toddler jumping into the box D'Oh! ) and one tiny eye.

Meiko2 1/2" of rain is a lot. We have had what's the weather guessers have dubbed a
'Atmosphere River' . In some areas they have received 3-4" of rain and heavy winds the past 2 days. The landscape is way to soggy to even walk on the flowerbeds.
The leaf color is the best fall leaf color we have had in years. The wind a rain has knocked most of the leaves off the trees.

Pic of my back garden showing seasonal fall color.

I didn't take pics of all of the roots I planted this last trip but I have a few, plus the messy looking beds. There won't be a 6th row put in next year, I'll be concentrating on extending the beds I have already further along the east side of the cottage first. That has to be done by hand since we can't get heavy equipment up there to trench and dig the post holes. Because I know this is going to be a very slow process I made the decision to plant herbaceous and Itoh peonies closer to the tree peonies than normally suggested knowing that I'll need to move them within a few years.

Remember the two potted peonies I found at the nursery in early September? I planted one today.

Thumb of 2022-11-06/Mieko2/ded80a

Whomever placed them in the pots did put the graft union above the soil line.
Here's how both sides of it looks out of the pot. It does have nice buds on the stems.

I am going to plant the other one I got in a large pot.

Hey Anya. Heard you got snow today. It was almost 90 here. lol. Tradeoffs I guess. My furniture is to arrive today along with my rototiller so I can finally get started on making beds for my peonies. Still don't know where I want to put them. Bumplbea, your yard is amazing. The greenery is as good as flowers in the fall. How much sun does you garden get - morning versus evening.

I saw the 50% off from Hollingsworth. Couldn't pass it up and bought two that I would otherwise not want to pay for. DH will still have a cow when he gets back from Alaska tomorrow. Early Canary and Kathy's Touch.

Thank Gary. I just hope the 15 I brought with me make it through the winter and at least grow (much less bloom) next year. This is such a different environment for me to grow in. All that I thought and did up in Alaska doesn't seem to apply here. I never mulched anything. The snow did that for me. Lol. I protected from Moose there, and now tiny little deer here. And the ground??? Ugh. Hoping building a hugelkultur will prove easier than trying to amend this sand and clay

Good Luck, ML. I'm sure you will get them to grow.

I received my Hidden Springs order. I am happy with my roots. I will certainly miss the rare varieties that they offered an am hopeful that they will be able to sell the nursery.

I bought three woody seedlings from them this Fall. They are from a well known nursery that went out of business in 2019. I had bought three of this same lot of seedlings back in 2019 from HS, and these are about the same size as the ones I already have.

I need to get these planted as we are going well below freezing Saturday morning.

Remember my Beautiful Senorita root I planted just a little over two weeks ago?

She has emerged D'Oh!

Thumb of 2022-11-11/Mieko2/f71f79

So I took a one gallon nursery pot that had the bottom cut off and inverted it over these stems and filled it with dirt, covering the new stems about 1-2 inches. I will keep my eye on it and keep them covered if they appear again. It is supposed to go below freezing for a couple of nights starting Saturday.
