Yes autobiography. An anthropologist would study the ages of the plantings and figure out when I was in my buy anything phase and when I started favoring natives.

...when you find a fellow gardener you will share almost any plant that you can propagate or easily reseed.

...when days lengthen in spring, gardeners go out to the garden after dinner "for a minute" that lasts until dark.

...your favorite pair of garden clogs wear out.
...your closet is full of packets of seeds and you still want to buy the next coolest variety.
...you spend more time outdoors than indoors and you wind up bringing some of the 'outdoors' indoors.
...you keep having to teach older family members which part of the plant is the edible part. You have to keep correcting them when they call your mustard greens 'turnip' greens.
...you HATE winter because it frosts too much and its hard keeping your cheap greenhouse warm.
...you think plants are nicer to be around than most people.

...if you keep a jug of water in your car during plant buying season 'cuz some of those plants for sale are thirsty and need a drink as soon as they get to the car.

...if you save garbage pots'n'pans even though they're not suited to touch food 'cuz they could be used as a planter.

...you plant bird seed and realize you don't grow birds from it.

I use my worn out pans to offer water to the birds. Set out by the sidewalk, sneaky cats can't sneak up to them. Birds are part of gardening!

Awwwwwww!!!!!! The three main birds I hate are wrens, phoebes and brown-headed cowbirds. My favorites are the cardinals, chickadees and cute little sparrows. (I LOVE goldfinches but we don't have them here. ) And of course, our neighborhood roadrunner.
