Thanks for this thread.
Kat, I have my amaryllis in the ground, they do great here as long as there is good drainage. I lost some bulbs when I first planted in a bed with the continous curving.

I have planted a few Louisiana Irises last year, they are budding up now. Easter Lillie's & Gladioluses do well too.

Lovely, Jan! Glad you've joined us Smiling My potted Amaryllis are starting to bud! I have a pot of Red Lion that I've had for several years that now has increased. After they bloom I believe I may experiment with one of those bulbs- plant it deeply next to the house and see if it survives the winter.

Neal, I do not have Clivia but maybe that is something I should try - yours are beautiful! I love the color too.

Jan, I agree your Amaryllis are wonderful. I planted some outside this year and we'll see how they do. One I have had in a pot that has not bloomed for a couple of years is now sending up a bloomstalk. I am in a border area of where they'll overwinter outside.

Hey Jan!!! Nice to see you. I think about you often when I look at my African Violet sitting in my kitchen window! Thanks for the Amarylis advice. Big Grin

Hi Kat, good to see you too. I think about you often thinking about all the good food you shared with us along with wonderful hospitality.
Little blurry but my very first Louisiana Iris in bloom.

Very pretty Jan! Are Louisiana Iris like the regular ones that are planted from bulbs? Do the blooms last?

Here's another one that's blooming of me. Originally, I bought them as a spikey accent not really knowing what they were and was amazed the next year when they started blooming. African Iris (Fortnight Lily).

I'm glad I have them in containers as I think they could have a tendency to take over...

Kat, they are like regular irises but I don't have much luck with regular. LA Irises are very hardy in all kind of climate, the blooms don't last very long but I think it's pretty.
Cannas do really well down here, maybe too well.
Great photography by the way.

I'm going to have to try them Jan as no other Irises will grow.

The Cannas are great aren't they? Would you believe I had my first Canna bloom yesterday...

They are obviously very hearty...as look at what this poor plant rebounded from after the freeze! Blinking

What a gorgeous photo of the walking Iris! Stunning! Love the African Iris in that container too. Awesome to have Cannas already!

Jan, that LA Iris is a beauty! Do you know the variety name?

Canna blooms? Wow - mine are barely out of the ground and nowhere near flowering yet.

Wonderful, Sandra! I love seeing Amaryllis growing in the ground. I'm doing an experiment this year with a couple of old Red Lion bulbs I've had for years, I'll plant them deeply in the ground next to the foundation and see if they make it. Brent&Becky's catalog says that they have been known to survive zone 6 winters with extra protection.
