My problem is that when I see that I have new messages and click on that to view the messages, I don't see an option to keep the notification open or flag it somehow so I can come back and review the DOTD. Is there a way to flag those messages so I can come back to them?

As I am understanding it, you want daylilies that we currently are growing so we are able to talk about the performance (and hopefully others chime in as well with their experience)....many of mine are relatively new and just getting established, so I won't put those newest additions on the list. I have had the good fortune of exchanging many plants with a friend of mine who lives in Maine (I live in Kansas) and think that this exchange will be incredibly enlightening to see how mine perform in his garden and vice versa....our own little experiment! I'm very excited to see the results!

Mine that I would suggest....(I didn't really see if they were to be newer cultivars or possibly older (and potentially overlooked) varieties, but I will try to steer to those that have been in my garden a couple years (this bug just bit me hard and fast within the last 2 years and almost up to 700....)...yes, I have the problem many of you also have....but I'm not afraid to admit it!

Well, I could go on....but enough to start (if I'm understanding what you are looking for). Give my dls a year....and then....well, something to look forward to and have many many more to add! I have loads I have planted and dying to know others experiences, but too late now...they are in the ground and I will just look forward to drawing my own conclusions this season!

Robin - In reply to your post about your "want" list. Keep in mind that no one on NGA may have a particular cultivar on your want list, so it will be featured but there may be no response to it for an evaluation.

FYI - I believe that there is somewhere between 90,000 - 100,000 daylily cultivars registered currently.

Also, just in case some of you are not aware. When you look up a cultivar in the plants database, if you scroll down under the photo on the top right-hand side, just before the photo gallery pictures are shown, you will see a message IF the cultivar has been featured as a Daylily of the Day.
Thumb of 2022-12-31/beckygardener/dd4899
That way you will know if there might be evaluations for it, in addition to the database info and member's photos. If you click on the blue link, it will take you to the evaluations!

And ..... if you want to post more than 20 cultivars here, I won't slap you with a wet noodle. I usually ask for 20 or less because I want to make sure that everyone feels valued whether they have a lot or a little. I have very few registered daylilies myself. The majority of mine are seedlings. I probably have the least of anyone here! Whistling Hilarious!

Hah! I'd rather add a few! Not that I want to hog the forum, but I have a lot of oldies that a lot of members grow, that have never gotten a Daylily of the Day spot.

Char said: These 13 have already been featured in DOTD. The easiest way to check your list for daylilies that have already been done is to look through the "Daylily of the Day Archive" in the box to the right of the main Daylilies forum page. Just click the link, they are all arranged alphabetically.

Just a reminder for those who suggested these plants that have already been featured as Daylily of the Day--if you own these plants, you can add your own reviews anytime to older DotD threads. In fact, it's nice to read newer posts and updates about these plants. The more, the better.

I do want to say, any time I am looking at a new daylily, DOTD is where I check 1st. I do look at where people are growing it if they are having problems, but I am guided a lot by this. Will add, I have a few that do well here but not others in the same zone, but I figure I just happened to plant mine in a happy place.

Zoia said: I think the idea is, we tell about our own plants and read everyone's evaluations of theirs so we know how other people's plants are doing in gardens across America ( and elsewhere!) The problem with picking random Daylilies is that there is no guarantee that anyone has them or has any info about growing them, so the slot is wasted. In evaluating your own cvs, you are providing others with information that's hopefully useful to them, in case they are considering purchasing the plant.

Sorry, I pasted my 'want' list before reading this. I'll delete my list.

As of today, January 2, 2023, there are 97,989 daylilies registered with AHS. And the total had changed when I went back to change it a few minutes later. It should roll over the 100,000 mark within the next couple of years.

Zoia - Hilarious! Hilarious! Hilarious! You have been amazingly busy adding updated evaluations to the many daylilies that have already been featured. I laugh every time I log on to NGA because I can count on you to have added more! Awesome job! Thank you for adding updated evaluations and your wonderful photos! They really do mean just as much as an initial evaluation. Keep up the great job you are doing! I can assure you that I am not the only one who appreciates it! Thank You!

Sometimes plants do well when we first obtain them, but climate, drought, planting site, etc. can have a major effect on a cultivar over time. I love reading about the die-hard older daylilies that just keep doing great no matter what they are dealing with from year to year. (These are the true winners in my opinion!) Lovey dubby

Robin - Please take the time to look into your want list of cultivar names and see if members here on NGA own any of them. If you scroll down the plants database page for any cultivar, it will tell you if anyone has it. Keep those on your list, if you would really like to know more. But delete those with no members listed who "have" them. Maybe in a year or two, some members will acquire them and would be willing to do an evaluation or you might have obtained them & can leave an evaluation yourself when they are featured! Thumbs up

To daylily growers ....

Again, if you posted an evaluation but did NOT get an acorn, please let me know. I may have missed it or it may have been a thread started by Jon (who is no longer involved in the DOTD feature). I only get a new post update to a DOTD if it was a thread that I started.

It doesn't matter how long ago you posted an evaluation and were not given an acorn tip for your post. Just let me know. I will tip you with an acorn regardless of the date of your post. Thumbs up

Well, I spent the morning getting caught up on DOTD. I went through my plant list and added reviews for any that I had not already reviewed and that I have had for at least a year. I wrote eighteen reviews this morning and two last night. I also tree-mailed Becky about several I wrote in Jon's old DOTD threads. Love those acorns! *Blush*

I also made a list of all the cultivars I planted this fall, the ones that have been DOTD. That way, I can remember to review them after the upcoming growing season.

Ok…I tried sending this list to Becky but she's making me put it here so she is not later accused of adding random Daylilies. I went through my WHOLE LIST and picked out any cv that is owned by 5 or more members that has not had a DOTD review yet. Yes, some of these have been mentioned by other people too but I was just going through my plants using the more than five rule ( just trying to be helpful! ) Strap in, there's a LOT of them… have I mentioned that I'm getting close to 800 named cvs? I figure, at least I'll review it and then there will be some info about it. None of these take precedence over other people's lists, they're just sort of additional Daylilies if Becky needs more. My main list of twenty is not represented here. Nor are the many Daylilies owned by 4 or less people. The number after the name is how many members own it…Here we go!

Wow, Zoia. That should keep DOTD going for quite awhile. A couple of those I was considering including in my list, but I sent the plants to you. Hahaha. I can review them anyway. There was actually only one on that long list that was also on mine.
