You should delay visiting your friend until peak bloom season. Whistling

It is very dangerous for me to visit the daylily gardens when they are in bloom for two reasons. First, I want everything that is blooming - they are all so beautiful in the grower's garden (but maybe not so good in my garden). Second, after peak bloom comes the miserable hot endless days of late Georgia summer. Transplanting daylilies between peak bloom and autumn just does not work well for me. I suppose I could pick them out during peak bloom, then wait to pick them up in the autumn, but I am not a patient person.

I just ordered Rose F. Kennedy.

Very pleased about this one.^^

And three more from Moonlight Valley Farm.

Drums Along the Mohawk:

This one ^^ I decided I wanted after reading the Daylily of the Day thread.

Early Fragrance:

and Little Rosy Cloud:

at least I think it will be Little Rosy Cloud. Apparently there is a lot of confusion between it and Little Pink Cloud. We'll see! I don't have either one, so I don't know if I'll be able to tell the difference.

Shoot Nan, now you'll have to buy Little Pink Cloud so you can grow them side by side. Sticking tongue out I remember the discussion.

Joann Stewart from Simonton Bridge has been wonderful to work with. She is perfectly ok with waiting until September to send plants and was extremely accommodating while we were trying to fill up enough plants ($600) to qualify for the 20% off discount…which is extremely generous! There were some that turned out to be unavailable this year so I substituted others. Anyway, very responsive and seems like a real nice lady. I hope I like her plants too!

Don't worry. I've located someone who has it. I will get it this spring or fall. Smiling

In December, I happened across the website for Harmony Nursery and Daylily Farm and wanted to visit them. Problem is, they are in Nebraska, which is a bit of a trip from my home in Georgia. Instead, I placed an order for September 2023 delivery. That seems like a long ways off, but I wanted to make sure the plants didn't sell out, so I went ahead and put my money down. Here is what I ordered.

Autumn Minaret - at 66" tall, this one has been on my wish list ever since I saw it blooming in a historic garden in Charlotte

Bright Sunset - tall with big bold flowers; however, with a rust score of 5, I may regret getting this one

Buttered Popcorn - This one looks like a show-stealer, and a rust resistance score just over 1!

Double Joanna - big bold color, and will be added to my garden devoted to double daylilies

Jolly Red Giant - registered at 68" tall, we'll see

Long Stocking - tall and big, 9.5" bloom

Mariachi - tall, 6" flowers, early bloomer

Scarlock - big, bold, rust resistance 1.0

Sheer Perfection - tall, big bloom, color of cantelope
This one does not have a photo in our database, which sometimes is a consideration when I am deciding on a plant, so I can add the photo to the database

Spellbinder - There was a comment in our database that this one keeps its color even in the bright sun of zone 10

Starman's Quest - It was my quest for this one that led me to Harmony Nursery

Time Lord - pretty, but rust resistance score of 5, we will see

'Time Lord' is showing rust Grumbling even though it came from New York and didn't have any here until temperatures got mild. It will stay outside hoping to get cold enough again [pot was greenhoused @ 10F] to kill off the rust. It may get moved back North

Starman's Quest is indeed lovely--I always admire this one when people post pictures of it.

I want to thank whoever recommended Simonton Bridge Daylilies--what an impressive list of cultivars available! Wow! I scrolled through it rather quickly and found several on my want list--including one 2021 intro that I have been drooling over since I saw it on a website last year and assumed I would not be able to get for some time. I could not find it anywhere. So it looks as though an email to Simonton Bridge is in my future!

I should warn you about RFK, Nan.
Arriving in 2021 it was a total rust bucket for me, infecting surrounding daylilies, too.
Thankfully that all died off last winter 2021/2022 and it was fine for me in 2022.

Keep your eyes on it. I know how careful you are with rust. Crossing Fingers!

Thanks, Orion! I really appreciate that. I have not paid for it yet--just communicated with the seller. I will email back and tell her I changed my mind.

And...if you would take the trouble to put a review in the database--either in the DOTD thread or in the comments section or both--that would be so helpful. Thanks again, Orion.

Just bought two more from Mark Sattelmeier

Spacecoast Freaky Tiki (and I hope it looks more like this than some of the other database photos - we'll see)

It could be a different strain, possibly.
Mine came in from Bonifay, FL, if that helps.

Donna, I got SC Freaky Tiki last year from Breck's. It made me 1 flower that looked exactly like that image. Thumbs up Not super-pretty, but I had a coupon due to a dead phlox so it cost me nothing to get.
Perhaps I will have a good photo this year.

Um, I've ordered several daylilies on the LA which will come from Bonifay, FL; Crossing Fingers! they don't come with rust. Whistling I've tried to pick cultivars that are not susceptible. Shrug!

Perhaps request a September ship date if you're worried? Zone 6b should kill any rust over the winter.

A good idea though I'm not terribly worried about the plants coming from Florida. I plant new plants fairly far apart and will watch them for any signs of disease. I'd rather have the time in Spring/early Summer to get them in the ground, later in the Fall is more difficult as the weather is unpredictable. I didn't get all my plants in the ground this Fall, though they are all at least in pots and as well protected as I can do.

For me it's more a question of plant susceptibility than grower location since rust is endemic here, and winter rarely kills it off. (We actually did get down to the teens a couple of nights this winter, so I'm somewhat hopeful for the next growing season--but that is rare.)

If a plant is susceptible, it's going to get rust here 9 times out of 10. Since I now know that RFK is susceptible to at least some strains, I'm not risking it even if it comes from a northern grower.
