Ginny, I got my Floyd Cove BOGO order today and all were four or five fans! The fans and roots were huge!

I received the following:

Pat-

Citrus Ferriswheel is one of the plants that I planted in the garden last year. We did have a mild winter, but I did mulch it with leaves before winter set in. It is budded already. I have had Crimson Sun since it first came out and it has really increased to a nice clump. Last year it was awesome and I think you will really enjoy it. Citrus Ferriswheel is great too, even as being evergreen. I love those wide blunt sepals and the full round form. Thumbs up

Thanks a bunch for that great information on both Citrus Ferriswheel and Crimson Sun. I previously ordered CF and loved the color, bloom size and pattern. When I received the email regarding the BOGO sale, I had to get more!

My last daylily order ran late, it was purchased on the LA last year but shipped a month behind schedule... worth the wait:

Bluetiful Butterfly
Ring of Power
Cherry Ripples

Three plants... filled my bucket! Planting in the gardens tomorrow, when I have a full day off.

I always eye up that Cherry Ripples pic they use on the LA to sell it, with lust in my heart. But the ones here are meh, so I am very excited to see which way yours goes, Dianne. Crossing Fingers!

Does anyone have a picture of Royal Robe that you can share? Database doesn't have one -- and I need to verify identity. Thanks!

Orion, I hear you! I was also skeptical, but I did read an interesting article regarding the 'banding' and repeat chevron patterns on many daylilies ... wish I could remember where I read it, I would put up a link. At any rate, that write-up said that many of those patterned bands / repeat chevrons disappear in hot weather and in southern gardens but do well in the cold north. Thinking

So, I am taking a chance on it with Crossing Fingers!

I have definitely found that! I have a lot of patterns and they look best until mid July.

Dianne, I did conceive an experiment last year when we were on another thread chatting about patterns, colors, and temperatures. What would happen if we watered daylilies with ice-water, or just dumped some ice at the base of one (on the mulch, no direct contact) the day before blooming? Would the pattern that emerges be amazing as a result?

None of my daylilies are large enough to experiment with yet. Ideally, I would have 2 of the same. One with regular temperature water to compare with. An easy and fun experiment. Obviously you need 2 just in case the one getting the cold drink goes into some kind of shock and dies (doubtful).

I think the patterns are forming in the bud for the entire time the bud is forming. So, basically weeks. I have no way to know that but that would be my guess. You'd have to ice water your patterned ones the entire time, otherwise I'm not sure the Daylily would notice.

I find the time when the color or pattern or both are determined for a daylily bloom interesting. I have had periods of wonderful color and patterns this year and periods of terrible color and patterns, which I attributed to the weird winter season we had here. But I have not paid enough attention when the color and patterns were great to really notice if the difference in any one days blooms could be attributed to a particular condition. Can anyone report a change from one day to another of daylily blooms to any particular condition or conditions, or does it seem to occur over a period of days, weeks, months?

A lot of my blooms were truer to color today than they have been, and the blooms much larger than they have been (in the case of blooms that should be large)
We have had a lot of rain, and today was cooler than it has been. I will watch how this changes over the weekend when it it supposed to get hot and humid again.
