Lynn, enjoy your trip. Hopefully you are getting some of our KY weather. It hit 66 today but heading back colder for the weekend.
Kevin, Tahiti sounds great. We visited our girls in FL it was hard to leave 70+ degrees.
Bee Kind, make the world a better place.

Thank you for the weather update, Kevin. Perfect time of the year to leave my semps unattended. I cleaned out the few winter weeds that had germinated, just before I left on the trip. Next week we leave for Texas. It is supposed to be very nice weather while we are there.

I hope we have nice weather for your visit Lynn. It is not nice today, probably feels like Oregon. I got at least 3 inches of rain

Finally a pretty day in Oregon! Got a couple iris seedling beds weeded and hope to tackle more tomorrow. (BTW Lynn there's almost 3K dwarf iris seedlings to bloom!) The semp seedlings had already been weeded during the last sunny spell. Nasty weather next week though!

Enjoy the concerts Lynn. I'm sure Mathuin will do his grandmother proud.

Just got home from the recital, your correct Kevin, Mathuin did make me proud. If Jocey get permission to put it on FB I'll let you know. Tomorrow is the Big Band concert. Can't wait.
I got everything weeded the day before we left on our trip. Three weeks shouldn't be too long to leave my semps without weeding? All the seedlings from last year were looking good. So far, no rotting.
I can't wait to see your new iris seedlings. Lovey dubby

Lynn,

No surprises with Mathuin. He will go far in life with all of his talent.

Can't wait for you to see the dwarf iris seedlings and of course there'll be quite a few semps to see too.

Alex, is it a miniature iris? Do you have it growing with you semps?
I love that I can grow them right alongside my semps.

No, I think it is a Siberian Iris. It's a seedling.... not a small one. It's not with my semps. This spring I plan to buy a couple miniature bearded Iris

I'm trying to remember where I planted my mini iris. I'm afraid the drought got them. Seems like North side fence and it doesn't get a huge amount of water. It's been years.

Yes bearded iris seem to prefer a bit of shade in the South, at least when I gardened in MS. Mine get water about once/ week if we don't have rain.

Lots of people grow them in the Dallas area though. I've spoken to their clubs a number of times.

I grow a lot of big iris but a few years ago I got some bulbs for miniature and I'd forgotten until now. I am not sure where I planted them

(my phone skips words when I am posting, just fixed the 2 missing ones.)

Have you checked on them Alice?

It's still cold at home, don't think there is much change in the semps yet.

I think they will have to appear for me to check them. I think I lost them in the drought of 2017 or the one before that, because I've been in the bed I think I put them in and I found no iris corms. When you have been in one place for 22 years. When I am smart and have time I use a notebook, with paper and diagrams and every bed has a number and I write down what I planted. I haven't had time to do that since about 2013. I do still have the notebook. I try to get a tag in the ground near bulbs, but if they fail, I may never notice.

Foundation work starts Monday. I went to the iris society sale in October 2022 and bought a few bulbs, they are in pots so I wouldn't lose them during foundation work. Although I don't think I am getting any perimeter piers at the price of iris nowadays I wasn't taking any chances.

Alice,

The rhizome sales of both the Dallas and Fort Worth iris societies are GREAT places to get irises at bargain basement prices. They tend to promote tall bearded irises there but there are two people on the Board of the Median Iris Society that grow lots more dwarfs and medians. When yuo go to the sale, I'm sure they could direct you to the smaller plants.
