I may be jumping the gun....well, for this area, but soon I know those south of us will be seeing glorious shows of Tulips! Let's see those pics, and share our Tulip experiences.

Again, I couldn't believe that I found several sets of tulip foliage emerging in Mid January. I added a lot of different tulips this year and will be interested to see how many of last year's tulips will return.

You've got tulips coming up in THAT?? Heavens! I love tulips. Get them anywhere from 100-500 at a time.

I've found certain divisions come back for me better than others. Peony-flowered like Angelique and the Fosteriana divisions are most reliable here.

Sorry the picture below is so bad. Wish I could have taken a picture of the whole porch without getting more nasty "lawn" (that term is used loosely) in the photo. The whole length of the tulip bed is 32 feet with all reds and yellows.

LOL Lori, I took that photo tonight around 7. On Saturday we got 24 inches and today another 26, Yes, those tulips are above ground somewhere under that. I just heard on the news that we have now had 6 more inches this season than Buffalo NY. Just imagine, it was 61 here, Monday a week ago..

That's a very nice tulip bed. I put in a lot of different types this year too. This will be the first time I've tried the Peony types. I'm not sure if any of my new ones are fosteriana types. I know that I put in some clusiana types.

Barb, I don't think it was here, maybe on DG? That would be a great thread though, feel free to start one here! Great to hear your species Tulips are returning! Do you know what species they are?

A sight for sore eyes Zuzu! Do you plant pre-cooled bulbs?

They probably were pre-cooled when I planted them years ago, but not since then, Neal.

Just beautiful Kath! I need to start planting tulips, even realizing some might not come back more than one year. They are just so cheerful looking.

I know, I know, there are ones that will come back, and I have some of the species ones. But it seems the ones I'm often drawn to are the ones that will never return for me, parrots, etc.

I have a big problem with voles so i haven't added any for many years. The ones near the house seem to be voleless. They are making bigger and bigger clumps but they are the basic red and a nice purple fringed one. I once put a million hearts delight across the base of my stair garden which is quite a long run but only one is still there. I love the striped leaves on those kaufmaniis. I do have lots of turkestanicas near the house again that always do great. I adore them. Here's Heart's Delight in 2004.

Mine aren't going because of the voles. I think the gardens are too wet for them. I'll just grab a few bags of the cheap ones each year.

Going to be awhile before any tulips bloom here. The daffs and crocus are just blooming now.
