Last year, a group of people got together to make a group "trade" with Erwin Geiger, who is a noted breeder and collector of Sempervivum (among other things), who is located in Europe. I was fortunate enough to be asked to participate in a minor way with this project.
I'm creating this thread to have a place to discuss some of the plants we received and to post photos of them. As you can imagine, shipping plants half way around the world (or receiving them) is a difficult undertaking. While semps are very hardy and will take a lot of abuse, a couple of months in shipping, passing through customs, etc. can be difficult. We were fortunate that most of the plants arrived OK, although there were some losses as well. After arrival here, and after some resuscitation efforts, the plants were again shared out among a number of the participants for propagation and to increase chances of survival. We are now in the phase of growing them out and propagating them so that we can share back with each other the ones that people are missing from the group they received.
I'll let the others involved participate here or not as they wish. Here are some of my pics. I'm asking that these pics not be added to the database at this time, due to the unusual circumstances of their journey and history. I want to give them a chance to display their true appearance as they adapt and acclimate.
