Here is my NOID Iris bloom for this year! It stands about 2.5 feet, so think that makes it a med. bearded ??
(don't know what they're really called??)
I nicknamed this one "seattle sunset"
Cheers

Any suggestions on what color you would call this one?
I tip my hat to you.

Wow. What a great combination of rich colors. If forced, I might call the general color something like "burnt melon." But "Seattle Sunset" is a great name. Does your friend intend to register it?

Mary Ann, that is so cool!! I'd love to see a photo! Hurray!
Brett, he isn't going to register this, he worked at a college where they were hybridizing several plants - mostly Iris. This is what he came up with!
He was throwing it away, I took it, sight unseen, just from his description I knew it'd be a bit unusual! I tip my hat to you.

Greg -- I don't have a picture of it yet -- every time I try, the winds have been strong and have torn up the petals. And each time I can see other buds coming, so I wait -- and the winds destroy them again. It's been a wicked Spring. I'll look tomorrow and see if there's gonna be another chance.

Sue I'm so glad!! I took some photos of mine today, but haven't edited them yet, and I know in the one I saw - too much of the funky part of my yard shows - have to "crop" the photo nodding I'm so glad folks got blooms in this first year!! That's cool!

Greg -- I never did get a chance to go out there and get a photo of your SS. I'm sorry -- it was a difficult year to take pics here. Next year, for sure!!

Greg, are you going to enter SS in the database? Dave and I had talked about entering unregistered irises when the database first started if there was a reason to. And I think this is a good reason, it's actually a name your friend gave it, and you are sharing it with others. If you think about it, a lot of plants are not registered.

I would put the story under remarks why it has that name, and why it's never been registered, but I would put it in the database.
