Hi Christy! Welcome! To ATP! I happen to know next to nothing about Irises, so I'll defer to other's!! Thumbs up Whistling
I love your Iris though, it sure is pretty, and I always am happy to hear when a plant has history, whether personal family or whatever, just knowing where it came from to get to where it is now is always interesting to me!
Thanks!! Hope you guys find out the name!! I tip my hat to you.

Muddymitts said:OK -- so first of all -- you're not Caitlin? Could we have a name so we know who we're talking to? Green Grin!

Second -- I'm confused. Are you talking about two different Irises? The first one -- *Mema's Bronze* that is "from at least early 90's" -- would not be an historic, if it is from the early 90's. Unless, of course, you're referring to the 1890's and not the 1990's.....................

The second -- that "was here when I moved in 35+ years ago" -- would likely be an historic.

I'm not sure of the cut-off date for *historic* -- there's a lot of disagreement on that topic by the powers that be. But I believe that Irises from the 70's qualify -- and Irises from the 80's and newer do not.

Lucy probably knows for sure....................

OK I'm new here and don't know all the ins and outs of this site. I suppose name is added in the profile? Haven't done that yet. (As an aside, I really am annoyed by all those blinking smileys etc.)
You are right, I was not very clear about linking Meme's Bronze and Dauntless. What I meant was, I have a similar iris, Dauntless, which I spent a lot of time Id-ing. I knew mine was older than 40 years, hence, a historic. It also has PBF which makes it easier to identify. I was just suggesting that Meme's Bronze could be a historic also, although which one may be hard to determine, as there are a lot of similar ones. I really like one of the features in the HIPS publication, Roots, which is to show several similar historics together, which makes it easier to distinguish which is which.

Hi Sharon. Thank you for sharing your name. Without that basic information, we don't know who we're talking to -- a guy or a gal, etc.

Yes -- you add any information that you'd like to share by going to your profile, and putting it in there. Don't have to use last names, or addresses -- anything like that -- but first names are great to know, and general geographic area where you live. There is also the option of selecting little icons that indicate areas of interest in your life. Sort of gives everyone a little snapshot of who you are!

I think it's cool that you were able to ID an historic -- that can be a big and difficult job. Thanks for clarifying your train of thought on your two Irises . Did you post pictures of your Irises? I'll have to go back and check. We're very big on pictures here!! (insert nodding grinning icon here)

I love the smiley (or not) icons!! Not only are they fun -- but they communicate intention of thought -- an advantage in the sterile medium of the written word, where tone cannot be conveyed.

Oh boy -- I just re-read this thread starting with Roy's pictures from June 12th -- and I totally lost track of things back there. I have been thinking that Sharon was Roy's wife and that Roy first posted under Sharon's name (Caitlinsgarden) -- and then came on under his own avatar.

The post where I got mixed up was where Sharon quoted Roy's comments and then commented on that. I did miss the quotation marks and thought that Sharon was repeating the information that Roy first gave about *their Iris* Mema's Bronze.

Now I see that Sharon was simply offering information on her own historic Iris Dauntless, in response to Roy's post. Right???

My apologies guys...................... Shrug!

Welcome to ATP Sharon! (there is that waving "welcome" icon, but figured I wouldn't use it since you just stated they annoy you :P ) I'm glad all the miscommunication got cleared up! (For some reason - a rarity, I was able to follow this thread, and knew what you were saying, and so tried giving you credit for guessing that it was an older Iris - I still say congrats on that! - hope you got that!!)
Mary Ann totally agree with you, I like the icons because they can say so much just by mixing them up in certain orders! Over on the sempervivum threads I'm known as the icon king, because I use them so heavily...sorry Sharon, it would "REALLY" bug you I bet! Whistling
Cheers all!

Howdy, Greg! I tip my hat to you.

Since you showed off your pretty "NOID", I'll share a couple of mine too. Big Grin
I honestly don't care if I ever find out what my precious blooms are.
As long as they are happy in my garden, everything is all right.

Hugs- Christy

Welcome to ATP cupcake! I tip my hat to you. I do like your Iris, is the second photo the same Iris as your avatar? Its a nice one!
Arlyn, I agree I love all the old Iris, (actually I like em all, but the older ones remind me of my grand parents house, and other older friends and family - who had some Iris here and there around their yards!)

Both are beautiful Cupcake. I am in the process of collecting the oldies. I am trying to start from the oldest know and work my way forward but it is a little harder than it sounds! All in good time, it should work out.

Thank you all for the compliments about my NoID's. Big Grin

Greg, my avatar Iris is my inherited "China Maid". We think the second picture is 'Lothario'.
The bloom opened in the house as a cut flower, so it is not as dark as the outdoor ones.

Lori, you have a big task ahead of you. I admire your iris desire! Smiling If you need a China Maid
(or just want one) let me know. I have a few extras that I am willing to share for the postage.

Yes Greg, it will be pricey but well worth the effort I think. I am going to stop at the 50s I think. That sounds like a good stopping point. It will take me years and years and hours and hours but it will be fun and I will enjoy learning the history of each one.

Cupcake, if you can spare a China Maid, I will be happy to pay postage. Thank you for the offer.
