I've almost always grown two on the same hill, but the two years that I only grew one, I had lots of zucchini. My neighbor always planted hers right on the other side of the fence, so I guess they got pollinated that way. I've never had a lack of zucchini with just one plant though. I also had lots of neighbors that were too old to garden, and they got the extras. Thumbs up

Maybe that is it. If one of my neighbors planted any, they would be at least 1000 feet away. Long way for a bee to fly with zucchini pollen.

Natalie, wish I had known just two days ago you wanted Cherokee Purple, I had several left that did not sell and would have gladly sent you some but I just planted all the extras.

And Rita, we are going to do the Florida weave since I don't have any more cages.

I think they are going to rename the Florida Weave to be the Long Island Weave.

So nice of you Arlene, but I would have turned down the offer anyway. I'm sure I can find some around here if I look. We're just so far away from town, and the city is 30 miles one way, and we were out of time yesterday to do any searching. I probably won't have room for them this year anyway since my daylilies have to go in the veggie garden too.

Yes, yes, no more buying of seeds. I don't guarantee that I will not buy a plant at the nursery though. Will try not too but you never know!

I love that Florida weave method. You just need some good garden twine and sturdy posts.

Actually most of the tomatoes and peppers too are in tomato cages. Just 12 tomatoes are in the Florida weave. But I am also going to use that Florida weave on my 4 Lady Bell Peppers.

Oh, I can use it on my peppers as well! Duh! Last year they were so loaded the branches kept breaking from the weight.

Yes, we're finally moved! Got here late last Tuesday, and had the moving truck unloaded by Thursday morning, which was great. Now we're living with boxes everywhere, but I don't care!

You can do it on the grill wrapped in foil if you slice it. Otherwise, it's usually halved lengthwise and baked or microwaved.

I had said I didn't like winter squash. Don't remember which thread it was about the winter squash. But I was thinking of pumpkin and those small types of winter squashes I sometimes see at the supermarket. Never even considered Spagetti squash until today.

I did Google and find out to half it and then bake it. I must say it looked really good and was making me hungry. I was watching the T-tube videos of people making spagetti squash dishes.

I love spaghetti squash with marinara sauce. It's really delicious! The hard part is slicing it in half. Almost needed a chainsaw! I'm sure that there must be an easier way, but at the time, I couldn't come up with one. I have a very good kitchen knife too, but maybe a serrated blade would work better? Any suggestions? I do want to grow them again eventually.

Which reminds me, I can't wait to grow those birdhouse gourds I've been planning on growing! I just need to figure out where I'm going to put them at. I want a long walkway with wire on top so that they will grow over the top, and hang down below the wire like my friend had them. It was so stunning, and you could walk under it. It was great for creating shade. I wanted to do a walkway from the house to the shop, but Mark thought that was a bad idea. Maybe because he's taller than I am and would be hitting his head on them! Natalie next year you will have room to grow just about anything you want. A good plan for this year might be to get those daylilies planted and some veggies and then just start creating beds for what you want to do next year. Like making your gourd walkway. Then you will be ready to sow seeds in spring and every spring after.

As far as the spagetti squash the hardest part of prepairing it seems to be getting it cut in half!

I usually cut Spag. Squash cross ways into halves, then cut those into halves to make 1/4 chunks. Then, layered into the steamer basket with an inch or so of water in the bottom, with the flesh side down, cover, bring to boiling and steam till tender. Eat with a bit of butter, small amount of brown sugar and a sprinkle of fresh nutmeg.

For me, it seems to cut crossways as the first cut easier than trying to cut long ways. I sometimes make a cut till I get through to the center then twist the knife and "crack" it open instead of trying to cut the entire way. I do that with acorn, buttercup, delicata too. Butternut -- now there is a hard one to cut!

Humm, steaming. I mostly see people baking it.
