Here's a noid that was beginning to send up bloom stalk. I cut it down/off and have been waiting to see if it will send out more blooms or any offsets. Remember the last time I did this on a NOID, I did get offsets in between the different sets of leaves after cutting the 2nd set of blooms off. But I forgot to water and lost the plant, never really seeing further growth of what looked to be more offsets. Crying
Here's my 2nd attempt on another noid that is the only one of its kind in my semp (NOID) collection. Note group of growth at where I cut bloom stalk but also growth below top set of leaves. Hoping 4 some more offsets that are more distinctive when I get back in 2 weeks? Rolling my eyes.

Hi Bev;

I know that form of offsets - we call them "emergency-kids";

sometimes when the middle of a rosette is damaged by the winter you can see that phenomenon also; but unfortunately only sometimes.....

it's great when it works on a "last one" Big Grin

Well I went out this Monday and harvested the last of the bloom stalks. It was so weird, there were actually some new short stems of blooms out in the beds. I don't think I have every had new blooms this late in the year.

Bad part of this is that some of the stalks were very dry/brown. The wind was blowing. Blinking And no matter how careful I was, I could see seeds blowing in the wind as I cut the stalks. Crying
I expect it will be a task next spring, gathering seedlings.

Lynn,

I gathered a couple right before the typhoon hit and I was thinking the same thing, except I'm betting those tiny seeds are somewhere in downtown Salem or went over the Santiam pass to Bend! The semps probably thought they were in the Alps that day as we were really windy.

Still have seed on a couple late ones that I'm giving a chance to mature but 98% are gathered and are spitting out their seeds into paper bags. In a month I'll crush thestalks, gather the seed, and store them in glassine envelopes until February-March planting. Which reminds me, I need more potting soil. Went through three huge bags planting the iris seed.

Kevin
