I love these threads! Not only for the pictures of daylilies, but learning about new people, places, and other things is wonderful. I had never heard of Sir Terry Pratchett, but am already obsessed after reading this beautiful quote of his!

"No one is finally dead until the ripples they cause in the world die away, until the clock wound up winds down, until the wine she made has finished its ferment, until the crop they planted is harvested. The span of someone's life is only the core of their actual existence."

My daylilies got hit with back to back lows around 40F. I think I just need to put my camera away, lol.

2Dogsmother said: Me too Robyn! I'm reading through the Discworld series for the second time, as well as some of the non-Discworld books that I had not previously read. No one could make me laugh as hard as he could! Have you read "Shaking Hands With Death", "A Slip of the Keyboard", or "Seriously Funny: The Endlessly Quotable"? All non-fiction and all well worth a read. I think "Seriously Funny" is where I may have found my quote.
I haven't read any nonfiction from Sir Terry. I have about 38 of the Discworld in audio, most with the original readers, so some of the audio quality is not great. I have started getting a few with the new readers but I tend to like Nigel Planer and Stephen Briggs better. They are fantastic to listen to while gardening. Pratchett is endlessly quotable. I just recently was redoing the Death books. And I never miss watching the DVDS of Hogfather every Christmas. Of the shows made from Discworld, I think Going Postal is the best. The Pratchett estate not approved version of City Watch is a sin. I enjoyed Good Omens very much, I also enjoyed the second series but I really miss the Pratchett influence. I can really tell it's all Gaiman.

I actually have a print of Errol sign by Sir Terry.

Vicki, the Discworld should prolly be read out of order. They are grouped by "philosophies" and POVs, I personally start everyone with the City Watch books, starting with Guards! Guards! Those are the procedurals. I love me some Sam Vimes. I was never that fond of the Wizards books, or even the Witches books, except the Tiffany Aching ones. So don't give up if you find you don't like a certain theme. If you google Discworld reading order you will see good suggestions.

I personally started the Discworld series at "The Colour of Magic" and have read them in chronological order. It really doesn't matter what you read first. I adore Granny Weatherwax, Sam Vimes and Rincewind (a Wizard). I think there is enough to satisfy anyone's personal tastes. I even rather like Lord Vetinari.

Robyn, I'm sure you don't need to be told to hang on to that signed print! I'm envious!! I've actually never seen one of the shows or plays; I tend to avoid those when they're made from books I've really liked. Just a quirk of mine. Likewise I don't often read books from which shows have been made that I've liked and for the same reason - don't want to know the differences. I have made exceptions, just not often.

A Canadian sci-fi author I like, Robert J. Sawyer, sells his books directly to his customers on eBay, signed.
https://www.ebay.com/str/rober...
They are also very nice people.

I do have a couple of Terry Pratchett signed paperbacks also. Not signed for me personally, but bookstores do make authors sign many extras that can be sold in the days after they did their visit. I hate waiting in lines. But I picked those up in the UK bookstore Waterstones decades ago.

OK, stupid story. I once almost waited in line in a Beverly Hills mall bookstore as Bill Clinton was signing copies of his memoir (post-presidency). Would have made a gift for my mom as she loves autobiographies. But the line was long and I was only visiting LA for a weekend, so I skipped it for the beach. I got his photo through the store window, though. Thumbs up
Was a total coincidence we were there at the same time, anyhow. I just figured that kind of thing is to be expected so near Hollywood. Rolling on the floor laughing

There are other things still blooming, though I didn't take photos: Kniphofia, Rudbeckia, Coneflowers, Yarrow, Peacock Orchid. If it's a sunny day tomorrow I may take a few shots of those. So windy today it's hard to get a photo in focus.

I got the print from Discworld . com a LONG time ago when Sir Terry could still sign his name. It's not personalized. Just his name. It took forever to get here from the UK.

Good Omens first series is quite good and pretty close to the books. Gaiman of course wrote the scripted and produced and show ran it. He said he promised Terry before he died. Tennant and Sheen are BILLIANT!! Supposedly, Pratchett and Gaiman worked out what the plot of book 2 would be at a con of some kind but by then both were busy and never got to write it. It's good but not the same as series 1. It also ends on a cliffie just as a warning. Gaiman promised the story would be finished even if Amazon didn't renew it for the 3rd series.

Of the BBC shows, the one truly worth watching is Going Postal, they got the steampunk aspects right.

Orion, OMG!! I'd adore a signed book. I have pretty much done away with my bookshelves except for my signed stuff. I'm old enough I need larger print so I most just do ebooks where I can blow the print up really big and usually, I do audio. My husband is a doc {who just retired in April} but I've been on my horse farms by myself for 3 decades, so I tend to like to have a book in my ear for company. I go thru about 200 books a year in audio, but a lot are relistens. My audible account is over 2,000 books.

I always figured if I ever got anything nice enough to register daylily wise, I'd use characters or references to Discworld, like a mini blue eye called Crivens, or Wee Free Men.

Robyn, I would absolutely buy a daylily named "Wee Free Men". Hilarious!

Zoia, Jessica Lynn Bell is a pretty thing! I bought a few pots of Arizona Beggarticks (your "candy corn") in early Summer and they have spread nicely planted in a bed. Had never seen those before and I am loving that plant!! So bright and cheerful - intend to plant more of them next year throughout the new bed. I haven't seen any seed heads yet; thought I'd try to collect them if there are any. Not even sure it produces seed heads.

Andrea, one would not know that is the same plant. What a difference cool weather makes!

Mike, it is so nice to see all your blooms. I tip my hat to you. You're in the allegedly cold North; what is your secret?

Donna sometimes things just happen. Willa Mae Thorton was new to the garden last year from you guessed it, @twixanddud. It sent up a couple rebloom scapes. It is a shortie with big blooms. Bitsy is a consistent rebloomer as long as it is divided every few years. Genesta starts late and bud builds till hard frost. Kids from other late bloomers are hanging around. First Twlight is not in the greatest spot. I was surprise to see rebloom. Black Eyed Stella and Rosy Returns are also consistent rebloomers. I can't sing the praise of Lily Munster any louder. It has rebloomed consistently with adequate water. Very showy BIG blooms.

Thanks for those recommendations, Mike. Ok, I may have to succumb to Genesta! Hilarious! I could use a few more late bloomers, as well as some that might rebloom.

I should explain. I had waited days for the last bloom on After Awhile Crocodile. Finally, I walked by in the evening, and it had started to show it was definitely blooming that night. I woke up in the morning, and this 6" diameter limb fell out of the tree directly on AAC. So somewhere under that pile of wood and leaves is After Awhile Crocodile's LFO... LFE???

The story gets stranger. The day before it fell, I had called the tree service for an estimate to cut back the branches away from the house, which would have included that big branch on the ground. The night after I made the appointment, that branch fell down equidistant between my house, my electric wire, and my neighbor's fence. ...but dead center on AAC.

That is soooo strange! The limb looks perfectly healthy; I don't see why it would fall. And on your daylily?! I think that daylily wants to be moved to a better space in your yard.
