I have had some that looked great when I got them, and then they just decided they didn't like it here, but then I have gotten a few that looked horrid when they first came, and they took right off! When Absolute Ripper first came here, it pouted to the point where I was sure it wasn't going to make it, but then it took off and is fantastic. I will go the extra effort when I am using them for crosses, but after I am done with them, they don't stay here if they don't grow well. I will say that I use White Eyes Pink Dragon for the vast majority of my crosses with pink and purple evergreens to get hardier plants. I donated half my clump to our club sales in 22 and am back to about 40 fans again.... but I scalped back some sod last week and discovered a severe grub infestation, and I know that I have them in my daylilies too. When one has been doing well and takes a turn, I always suspect grubs. My second criminal is when they get overpowered by Lupine or peony seedlings. Grumbling I ordered Exotic Starfish from two people this year. The first one came last week from Georgia, and it was worse than terrible. There were three or four fans, and together they were not the size of a small stalk of celery. The roots on it were about two inches long and had not been trimmed.

I got Dot Her Judy today (Sunday) and replaced My Sweetest Carolyn for being one of those that hasn't done especially well. It had gotten what I would call "spring sickness" and was sending up a bunch of nice healthy plants, and had massive pencil thick roots, but I needed the space and was tired of fooling with it. For whatever reason, I seem to have a problem with spring sickness in quite a few diploids almost every year, but when they do that consistently..... Angry

So, after a Dr. visit out of town, my 🚗 took me over the highway to Lowes. I strolled in & 3 daylilies jumped into my arms out of the new arrivals rack, all saying "Please take ME". Since they were in bloom, being Lowes Whistling , I checked them against the database, before spending more retirement 💰 D'Oh!

Wow, our Lowe's hasn't had anything like that. Lots of Stella de Oro--or what passes for Stella. Going Bananas sometimes. Once in a while Strawberry Candy or Mardi Gras Parade.

I received two orders this morning. I ordered Blackberry Tart from Ron Reiner and he sent Cosmic Waves as a nice bonus.

I ordered Christopher Moody and Holy Lamb from Russell Roberts. CM has scapes, not sure if they will survive.

I had both of those and Storm Shelter was about the same color here. It had a habit of sometimes not having very many buds, and I could say the same for Ruby Spider. Both of them finished blooming in 10 days or less, but both of them were very hardy here and increased really well. The bold red of Ruby Spider is amazing though.

I got my order from Ron Reimer a week or so ago, and three of the five plants are now sending up a scape! I came really close to ordering Blackberry Tart too!

Pat, I hope you love Blackberry Tart as much as I do. We could have a fan club! Hilarious! Cosmic Waves looks lovely; I'll be interested to see how it does for you. Nice-looking orders! Happy planting!

I got my order from the Stamiles today. Still Got the Blues from Grace and Misty Jewel from Patrick and a bonus of Purple Sunshine. They are huge clumps so I'll probably divide them. I know they are Evergreen but I'll protect them in Winter. My focus this Summer is on blue crosses and I wanted some totally different genetics than what I have now. I'm also getting Dandy Candy from Eric Simpson and Lighting Blade from Jamie Gossard plus Baby's Got Blue eyes from Diana Gossard. Her last single fan. Of course I can't set pods on them but I will try to put pollen on the seedlings I have now and some other blue patterned named daylilies that I have already. I'm also getting Princess of Candyland from Heidi Doughlas which is out of Exotic Starfish. I'm covering both dips and tets.

Great ones Bob - I have Baby's Got Blue Eyes and have really liked that one. Can't wait to see your crosses! The ones I've seen so far in your program at Pollen Dabbers are amazing!!! Let me know if you need me to test any in my garden LOL

Bob, wishing you the best on your blues program. I grow many bluish iris and I love the color. I hope we can make strides in getting more blue into daylilies!

Wow, Donna--those are gorgeous! I had Ob-la-di, Ob-la-da once but it did not do well for me and never bloomed. I trust it will like your location better! I love everything you ordered. Can't wait to see your pictures.

@Dewey Rooter,
I ordered Blackberry Tart based on your pics. It had cut scapes but I'm hoping for rebloom. Yours is beautiful.
@Deryll,
I wanted to order more from Ron (Cosmic Fireball and French Parasol) but they were above my price point Smiling

Thanks, Nan, hopefully I will see some blooms this year. Several plants came with cut scapes which gives me hope they'll put up more.

Bob, I agree with Teresa re: blues in daylilies. There is no color I dislike however would love to see more blue.

Zoia, Clown Parade has been in my Want List for awhile and Chinese Water Lily may be added! Those are beauties.

Pat, Christopher Moody is a pretty one - I gravitate to the eyed and edged blooms.

Dave, lucky finds!! I have sure never seen anything but Stellas in our Lowe's.

Can't wait for more blooms!

I'm still holding out that Cameron Stern's research in Australia will introduce some actual blue, not bluish genetics into Daylilies. I know that's his goal!

I got Blackberry Tart in the fall. It is really early, so I am not surprised yours had cut scapes. It is such a great bloomer, though, that I would not be surprised if it bloomed again for you this summer.

I have Cosmic Fireball. I couldn't afford it, but after my third order or so, he sent it as a bonus. Big Grin I love it, but Blackberry Tart is still my fave.
