@papa It finally stopped raining long enough to take a photo of some of the Odoras that need to be repotted. These were taken about a week ago. They have since grown even more. I have to get them some bigger pots. The patio looks pretty messy, but the rain and the wind have kept me from getting out there very much. The ones in front are on a riser. There's another row behind the riser. I believe there's 11 pots. The rest are planted behind the pond.

Thanks! I hope to get them situated before the July drought sets in. We've been spoiled by all the rain we've had this year.

The one in the blue pot, that you ID as an Odora, doesn't want to come out of the pot. And it keeps sending up blooms. I guess it thinks it's dying. I will have to have help, or a machete to get it loose.

@Bubbles yes that sounds like Odora if it's been in that pot for awhile the roots grow out and circle around the inside of the pot and will even grow through holes in bottom of pot. If your pot is plastic just turn on side and whack it real good on all sides i use a rubber hammer then you should be able to work it out of pot. It takes a bit of work but i usually wash the old dirt off roots and trim them off some before repotting. And yes mine were blooming before they put out new leaves.

Not a plastic pot, but a ceramic one, about 2.5 ft tall. I'll try to wrangle it out of the pot without breaking anything. Thanks! Thumbs up

And getting help a good idea someone to hold pot and someone to pull plant. Soaking with water works sometimes.

Round 1: Pot 1- Me 0
Laid it down, sat in front, put my feet on the pot and pulled.
It wouldn't budge. I had used a piece of rebar to loosen sides of pot and filled pot with water.

Round 2: Pot 1 - Me 0
Put it back on cart, laid pot down on pathway. Moved to the step for better leverage.
Put feet on either side and pulled really hard. Managed to break lamp with foot.

Had to go to the lake today to mow and pick up sticks. I'll try again tomorrow, but I think I give up! Sighing!

I have no idea what happened to the new leaf. Seems like it wanted to be a stingray alocasia.

Don't worry, it may smooth out as the leaf grows bigger.

Sandi, I have a suggestion - lay the pot on it's side, and stand on the upper side of the pot. Turn the pot to the next side and stand on it again, turn and stand until you've stood on all sides of the pot. This should loosen the root ball from the pot pretty well. Also, I'd let it dry out a little bit - maybe the root ball will shrink a bit.

Then try the sitting in front with your feet against the pot rim and pull. Above all, DO NOT let the plant win!! Big Grin

Thanks Elaine, but the pot is thick ceramic. I think I'd rather lose the plant than the pot. Sighing!

@Bubbles Sandi if you don't have water restrictions just use the stream on hose to wash out dirt leave pot on side and wash till it gets loose.

I still think I'd try letting it dry out, first. The root ball may shrink a bit.

@papa I think that's a great idea! I'll wash the dirt onto the frizzled grass that's left in the backyard! Those Odora slices are amazing. Who would think they'd survive being sliced up like that? I've just got to try that on one! Is it too late to sacrifice one? I think I have one in a blue ceramic pot that I could cut up! Whistling
