Cattleya schilleriana is a beauty! I had one for quite some years, almost bare-root, top shelf in the greenhouse/right under the glass ceiling, flood daily with rain water. Lovey dubby Sooo worth it!

I know. But I keep buying it and killing it. Is there such a crime as "Orchidcide"??? Maybe I'll be indicted? Rolling on the floor laughing Shrug! Sighing!

With you there, Nick. I've bought more than a few Cattleya repeatedly, and lost them all after a few years. C. 'Copper Queen' and C. Susan Fender 'Cinnamon Stick' come to mind. That last one was special because I got to buy it from Susan Fender herself, and she said "Take good care of this, it's named after me". Argh.

Yum! Smiling

And regarding the duplicate attempts - Sometimes one starts out with a less vigorous plant, while the same Orchid from a different vendor takes off. It happens!
Also, I found that if I buy from a vendor who grows under similar conditions, I do better. .....which goes back to the Trichopilia example.... Smiling
In my case, pick up a Cattleya maxima not from the cooler region, but rather go for the Lowland/warmer plant.

I wasn't sure it was a bud when I first noticed. And you can't see the detail without a magnifying glass.

Your Dendrochilum are amazing! And the Dendrobium, too Lovey dubby

I really love the canes of some of the Dendrobium, especially ones that are ribbed.
