The Deep Cut Orchid show was similar! I always used to go on the 1. day of the show/a weekday, when attendance was fine, but not packed! This year there were a lot of people, I would say happy people. Mr Silva ( Silva Orchids) said something to this - "yes, we are back!" Thumbs up

And I added a piece of this miniature, Dinema polybulbon last year (?) to a coconut shell ( the shell came from our Ken @Drdawg ) and the pieces are actually rooting and putting out a couple of blooms.

I know what this little Orchid is capable of - some years ago, I had a nice mat of this growing, but then it declined. This is what I had envisioned:
This is a pic from ca 20 years ago, it shows Bill Hutchinson /Larch Hill with his awesome plant, growing horizontally. This gentleman had the touch! Thumbs up

Good looking vanda, Ursula. And I forgot all about Dinema polybulbon. Had one years ago. Did well for quite awhile, and then....back on the wishlist.

I apologize for the image on a 90 degree angle. But I got this from a friend of mine in early February. It is a large plant growing kind of helter skelter!
It is Cattleya intermedia. This is the typical form. It is available in an alba, semi-alba, albescens and coerulea variety. It comes in different shades of pink with a darker lip.
I have not grown this since I had a coerulea clone about 12 years ago. I did lose it.
I had a nice alba clone that had much taller growths back in the mid 80's and that lived about 20 years. This one is a clone of some 75 bulbs. Early this summer, I will try to harvest and few divisions in an attempt to spread it around.
This flower has a natural spread of 9.4 cm. It is slightly fragrant. It is capable of flowering several times a year.
There is no better thrill then catching fish using flies that you tied!

Oh, all such lovelies today in the pictures! Those Paphs are a stunning display.

So sorry you had such a difficult show experience, Nick. Wow!

Here's my big orange Cym finally with all the spikes at least slightly open - there's always an outlier with the flowers facing the wrong way, isn't there! Hoping the flowers will turn around if I quit moving the plant - wanted to display it nicely while my kids were visiting.

I can give a couple! Hilarious! there's only one bloom currently. But it was so nice to see it. It bloomed when it was snowing, which I was quite surprised about.

Oncidium Sharry Baby! One of three! I don't remember this one as having such a speckled lip.

It has taken months but a couple of flowers on Phaius Orchtoberfest have finally opened.
Hurray! There were four open yesterday, have not checked yet this morning. There are over 100 buds on the plant.

Like you Ursula, I thought that the lip on Sharry Baby had a good deal of white in it, not the speckles. I think that was the clone "Sweet Fragrance". But in looking on line, I found a clone called 'Red Fantasy'. It does not have white really in the lip, but so many of those are not speckled.

Now to add to the confusion or uncertainty, there is a nice image that I saw of Sweet Fragrance, no white on lip, lip pink with a dark amethyst blotch in the center of the lip. So yours is probably a Sharry Baby of some type. Especially if it smells like chocolate. One other thing to ponder, since these were mericloned like crazy, could these minor differences be a result of the cloning or are they light or temperature controlled?

Nick, I actually thought that was my old 'Sweet Fragrance', a plant I bought in the nineties from Heart's Ease /Califon. But that lip confused me! Have to keep an eye on that one.

edited to add - and yes, it smells of the typical chocolate/vanilla!

Alice, with over 100 buds, this will be spectacular! Lovey dubby

Alice, they're going to be fabulous! My Phaius are coming along SO slowly since the weather has warmed up, but nowhere near opening any flowers yet. They pretty much sat and pouted last week while it was chilly every night and never got above about 72 in the daytime until Friday. Today will be 80 - Phew!

You can see 4 of the 5 spikes behind the pink begonia flowers.

Alice good growing there! Can't wait to see a picture with that many blooms. And looking forward to your shot, Elaine when they bloom in front of those begonias.
