Thanks. I'm just getting started. I have tons of stuff to add to that. I want to have everything on there. I'm missing tons of stuff but you can't do it all in one day. I guess I'll add a few plants every day until I run out of new ones to add. They keep coming up with new plants though. LOL.
From what she said, it was all about sterilization. They were in a clean lab, using vent hoods, and constantly on the lookout for contamination. Whole batches would get wiped out overnight. It made me realize why the plants cost what they did. These companies sink BIG bucks into the TC labs.
TC stands for tissue culture. It's a way to get mass production of new varieties. Some plants take to it better than others. Occasionally, there are health problems, mutations, etc. It's a painstaking business.
I would love to learn how to do Tissue Culture. I tried on my own and haven't been able to figure it out, but I know people who do African Violets and other easy to do plants. I would like to tissue culture some Echinaceas that I have discovered too, but it's not easy at all.
Sheryl - I've seen classes offered online. People have been doing this in their kitchen. I've seen pictures of their work too. I'm going to learn to do it someday, but right now...time is a factor. I don't seem to have enough time in the day.
Here's a link to the classes I was referring to...
Here is one of my favorite flowers...orange or any other color...Butterflies and Hummers love these Tithonias...Shoe sent me the first seeds..and now they sometimes self sow. Jo
They bloom all summer and are very easy to grow...or I wouldn't be having them every year!! They get about waist high..and branch out...they are called a Mexican Sun Flower...and are quite a bit like our yellow Arizona Desert Sunflower that are wild all over the place. They make nice cut flowers.
I can send seeds as it's about time to plant them. Jo LMK
