I love these!

It doesn't get hot enough here in the summer for my cannas to grow that tall. Great colors!

Thanks Susan, I bought 3 bulbs and scattered them, the other two are behind in opening but I really love these big bells. I would love to add more varieties now.

Stephanie, does it stay too overcast or rainy in Salem during the summer?

Hot and dry July, August, and September. But I suspect cool nighttime temps in the 50's seem to keep my cannas from becoming impressive. Also the colocasia (elephant ears).

We have the same cool temps at night, in fact cooler than where we lived 2 years ago and it's affecting how my daylilies open. Probably the dry. I do water them a lot.

Interesting----I started mine from small bulbs or tubers from costco last year......maybe this year they will take off. They are up and out of the ground about 6 inches so far. Do you give them any extra stuff like super phosphate?

I don't give them anything. I have a huge old crowded pot of them too, they are shorter so far so I will be diving it up this winter and get a few more bulbs in the ground where they really seem to like it. They do take a while to really attain their size so once those bulbs get bigger I bet you will get bigger plants. Mine started emerging in Feb.-March I think and with nice weather they really took off fast.
