Great photos Lin. Very pretty. Those white peacocks are really eye catching aren't they?

A Black Swallowtail and a Tiger Swallowtail. I saw A great Spangled Frit on the milkweed over the weekend but didn't get a photo of it.

Claudia: Wow, beautiful shots of those Swallowtails! Thumbs up I've been spotting more butterflies around the past couple of days but they all seem to be flitting about in erratically. I saw an Eastern Tiger Swallowtail this morning but by the time I ran inside and got my camera it was gone. Sad

I did get a couple of pic's of an unknown Skipper this afternoon; haven't had a chance to look in my Fla. butterfly book yet to identify it but will do it after dinner. It was really tiny so I got a close up shot too:

Yes, Avedon, that's correct & a beauty it is!

Very cool snout J. I believe last year Linda in Tx. posted some snouts. I had never seen them before that. Neat looking butterflies.

Their snout is certainly distinctive; I think Linds reported that they heavily congregate at times down in Texas. They're up here every year but I usually only note, at best, several at any given time.

I looked it up & apparently we only have one snout type butterfly here in Fl. & that is the American Snout. It appears that it is not too widespread, confining itself mostly to the border of Fl. & Ga. & in not too great of numbers. I will keep a lookout but imagine it will be a rather rare sighting for me here even though I am close to the Ga. border. I clicked on a reported sightings map & came up with dates such as 2007 & 2008 & earlier.

Got a couple of lucky shots of the clearwing hummingbird moth on the phlox that all the pollinators just love.

Good one Avedon! Hurray!

Whenever I see clearwing hummingbird moths; they always make me think of crawdads (crayfish) with wings. Hilarious!

Thanks, everybody. The first time I ever saw a clearwing hummingbird moth, I didn't know what it was, so I was calling it the "little lobster" moth Smiling

Nice photos, Lin. Haven't seen any monarchs here yet, they usually start coming in August or September I believe. I did see a zebra swallowtail in the garden this morning. Unfortunately, it flew away before I could get a shot with the camera.

I have only seen 1 monarch this summer....I go check the milkweed down the road every day and none to be seen. But the bees are very happy!
