I've read that they are drought tolerant, so maybe they are just water hogs when they are grown in pots. I think they get a taproot when they are in the ground.

Will do! That probably won't be until next Spring, unless I think it's safe to do it this fall. Not sure what the weather is like here in the fall, so it may be smart to wait.

Thanks Natalie! This has been a good thread but I would like to say that mine did rebloom without cutting off the two original stalks. So, I think I will cut off the stalks now to see if I can get a third flush of blooms. Green Grin! Wish me luck, and I will be sure to post when I find this out. Thumbs up

Sounds great Susan!! I sure hope you get an extra rebloom! I really love this plant, and if I'm lucky, I'll get rebloom also! Not sure if it's too late for that, since it just started blooming, but I'm going to hope for the best!

Well, when the flowers turned all brown I thought the show was over but almost right a way new stalks began to appear and then buds. I was very excited then because it makes the plant worth the ground space. We first noticed the first two stalks on June 5 and at that time the stalks were only a little over 4 feet tall but quickly grew to over 6 feet. This means the plant has been blooming for a whole month and is not finished yet. Thumbs up

LOVE the foxglove next to it! Is that Monarda next to the foxglove? I love those two plants! It's kind of hard to tell what the other one is because I can't turn my eyes away from the hot poker! Hilarious!

I went out to see if there were possibly any new stalks coming up on mine, and I didn't notice any. I did notice this cute little bump growing from the stalk though! Any idea if I can break that off and plant it?
Thumb of 2013-07-06/Natalie/0cbfa6

These little green things are also growing along the stalk. Not sure if the little bump started out as one of these or not, since I never noticed it growing to begin with. It really is hard to pull your eyes away from the bloom!

As I was standing up from taking the pictures, one of the dogs decided to bump into me, and I almost landed in the plant. Good thing that happened, because look what I found! Hurray!

Exciting to see new buds! Hurray! The growth on the first photo are also flowers..don't break them off..those will mature further and bloom too, like secondary blooms on a stalk. My plant had that similar growth this year:

The first one looks like it's in full bloom already. I can't imagine it doing anything more! It's so round! Do they grow out of the little drain pipe looking things? I seriously expected to find a little gnome or something, taking a shower under those things! Rolling on the floor laughing

I've never grown them from seeds, so I don't know.

I forgot to ask if you replanted it elsewhere, and if you did, did it survive?

I've gotten rid of all the Red Hot Pokers, except for one, 'Alcazar'. I love this one! Here's some pics of mine from the database. It just keeps on putting up new stems and flower buds! Thumbs up

Each roundish bud will open up further, showing the pistils, like this:

Wow! Keep us informed. Looks like you are going to have some rebloom also. I am already having rebloom but I am going to look for nodes and evidence of new stalks like yours. Yippee!

The plant growing next to the Foxglove is Agastache 'Raspberry Summer'. I need to a new picture of it. Green Grin!
