That fascinated Martagon of Joe's is 'one for the books'. A unique one for jmorth's collection!

Rick, what's going to become of that one with a fist full of stems like that? Do most stems bloom? Great photo; it's nearly impossible to get a good photo of several stems in one shot,-I know!.

I take a lot of photos for my own documentation, and this is a great example of how they come in handy. Here is a pic of that clump last year. It had four blooming stems and one puny one. (The fifth blooming stem is actually a different plant.)

That pic of eleven stems was taken May 5th, and the clump is large enough now to see developing buds. There are ten stems out of the eleven that will bloom this year. It's a little early for accurate bud count, but it looks like one will have five, most have six, and a couple with seven or eight buds.

(I cleaned up the neighbor's spruces this spring, too.)

Are the flowers as exceptional as the bulb's desire to multiply?

As I remember, they were fine but unimpressive. Here they are:

I took pics of all the individual flowers, but now I'm not sure which is which without delving deeply into my records. This year, I am changing my records format to make it easier.....

So, in spite of it's many stems, it still produces a reasonable bud count as well. Quite unique, I'd say. That was a nice surprise! Smiling

Glad to note there is somebody else beside me who takes about 5000 pictures a year----and I still wish I had taken the time to take more under some difficult, dirty circumstances. Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing

5,000..... yeah that's probably about right! I do take a lot of duplicate photos, though, in fact most of the time, because my camera isn't the best for close up shots. I'm glad I do, since often one of the duplicates is better than the other(s).

Even though I have one of the most expensive pocket cameras on the market (Sony RX100M2), I decided from the beginning that I wasn't going to baby it. If I can't get the shots I want because I need to be so careful about it, then it's not worth it to me. So it sometimes stays out in the garden with me, is kept in my front pants pocket on hikes, and occasionally gets a little wet.

Two cool photos. The first is of a pot of L. Martagon seedlings. The weird thing is that there appears to be an epigeal seedling. The other thing is it didn't come like that until after the cold period with all the other DH seed. Anyone ever see anything like it? The cotyledon is a little thicker than a standard epigeal germination.
The second is of my Frankenstein martagon continually evolving!

Most unusual about the martagon seedling. It's not terribly rare for matagon seeds to come up immediate hypogeal, but don't think I've ever heard of epigeal - delayed or immediate. IH martagons tend to be more vigorous plants right through maturity, so I'd keep a close eye on that particular one.

I had not expected Franky to flower in tiers like that. A much better form, I think, if there is one. Whistling

The thing is Rick. It wasn't immediate anything. All seeds were in a bag of vermiculite with 3 months of warm, then the bulblets went in three months of cold. Then planted out and leaves came up including this cotyledon.

Yes exactly: it epigeal, and more specifically - delayed epigeal (DE). Some lilies (not martagons) do have this germination mode as their normal pattern.

My Cherry Lily! It is a first year martagon Dalhansonii seedling that has had a little soil wash away. I will have to throw a little more mix on top but this is bright red!

Well, here's a funny one for ya-A couple out walking their puppy last evening allowed him to get a little too close to my lilies. His leash got entangled in a group of Fiery Belles and he pulled one double nose completely out, anchor roots and all. All this without as much as breaking a leaf. The ground is very soft here, so that part is easy to understand and Fiery Belles is a very stiff, tough stemmed plant. They came to the door and explained what happened and were very apologetic about it. I immediately replanted the entire plant 'as is' ( first instinct response ) because if you notice the stem on the left has 'lite' fasciation' and I wanted to save it for photos.

But this morning I have second thoughts; maybe I should disbud now. So, I'm asking the group---what would you do? Consider that I have about a dozen more and they multiply pretty fast.

Edit Added: I forgot to mention the puppy was frolicking with a tiny baby bunny when this happened.

Sounds exactly like something my puppy would do.

If it were me, I would water it in good immediately, give it more water on day two, and if it didn't look to be over the shock in 48 hours I would disbud, since after all, I have more. Yet, still giving it a chance to settle back in.

I would leave it as is Lorn, especially since there is no damage and you have a bunch more.
